Why is baseball the best sport on the planet? Discuss. (4 Viewers)

First, I love baseball. But baseball will not be the best sport on the planet until you can find thousands -- actually make that millions -- of people of both genders playing it from age five until very old age.

Right now, you'd have a hard time finding anyone over 50 ever playing baseball, unless it's slow-pitch softball. And over 60? Zero.

My vote -- and the vote of tens of thousands of people within five miles of my home, from ages five to *at least* 92 -- goes to tennis.

(And I certainly don't even want to hear about any game in which 90% of the participants drive around in electrically powered carts! :cool )
Tennis? Well no surprise there.... at least you didn't go with Pickleball.... :cautious:;)

Or padel. Most tennis players give pickleball a shot, but there are definitely problems with pickleball:

1. The sound drives you nuts, including anyone who lives within a quarter mile of a court, and

2. For old folks, having to constantly bend over to pick up the ball is a literal pain, mainly in the back. At least with tennis, it's easy to pick up the balls with your racquet and the side of your foot. Can't do that with a 16" long paddle.

3. Also, p-ball as of now can only be played on a hard court surface, which can be discouraging, and is now being noted as causing a lot more injuries than clay tennis courts.

Who else is going to an Opening Day game today? I'm going to Toronto vs. Baltimore. LFG Jays!!!
Not today, but I'll be at the Orioles home opener on Monday vs the Red Sox. Is it wrong for me to wear a sox jersey and an O's hat?

In a word....YES
for the last ... million years or so ... the O's and the Sox have never been good at the same time. I've been a sox fan since 1986 (because I wanted to be different than everyone else here), but I've been going to Orioles games since I was 5. Yeah, I know same division and all. I've now been an O's season ticket holder (13 games per season) for the last 4 years, so I have a huge spot in my heart for this team -- especially right now with the new owner and commitment to winning and fielding a good team. I'll always be a Sox fan, but it's closer to 55%/45% now.

This season both teams should be very competitive, so I can't wait to watch them duke it out.

Commissioners Ruling:

Given the special circumstances of living in proximity to the Orioles and attending games since a young age, the Commissioner's Office shall allow a Red Sox Shirt of your choice to be worn underneath (but not exposed) any non Red Sox shirt.
