Cash Game Who's the workhorse? (1 Viewer)

Hello guys.

I'm curious if you guys can help me out pinning down the workhorse in different stakes.

The chips in use in these scenarios are1-5-25-100-500.

My guesses would be:

NL/PL
sb-bb (workhorse chip)
1-2 (5)
2-5 (5/25)
5-5 (5/25)
5-10 (25)
10-20 (25/100)
10-25 (100)
25-50 (100)

When it comes to FL, I would guess that 1 BigBet divided by 4 chips is preferable.


Do you guys got any other suggestions? =)

Correct....... and having only two denominations in play -- 10x or 20x apart -- is generally considered best.

I would presume so yes. Your increment bet chip is basically all you really need. The larger denomination is like your own personal bank of checks to cash into the increment bets. The larger chip makes it so you don’t have to have 2000 $1 chips in front of you because you did well at a 1/2 FL table

@BGinGA I don't know if you do, but if you do play FL stud... do you use 1 chip for ante, 1chip for bring in and 2 chip for complete?
Or do you use some kind of button ante with 2 or 3 chips?
My question really is how would you like to set up a FL HORSE game when you use BB=4chips? Concerning antes and bring ins.

Easiest way to do it is have the button post a two-chip ante for the entire table, with a one-chip bring-in.

For my 2/4 game, I wanted to emulate a 25c ante. 8x 25c = $2... so if the ante is 1/4 of a SB, 8 players results in a SB ante. In a 2-chip / 4-chip game... its 2 chips.

If you have fewer players, you could reduce the ante. However, what are the repercussions of leaving it 2 chips?

if it means more or less "whats the problems leaving it at 2 chips" then.. probably nothing.

So it seems to me 2-2.5:1 bringin:ante is pretty standard.

The ratio of ante:smallbet determines how aggressive the game should be. The smaller the ratio the more aggressive it should be, so 2/4 and 10/20 are pretty high-ante structures relative to the bets. The 4/8 structure is the lowest-ante structure.

And back on the original question, I generally think of the chip above the one used in blinds and antes as the "workhorse" chip, so your original table is pretty solid. Ideally, that denom should be 60% or more of the chips on the table.

I play a lot of HORSE games, or at least used to. As Justin said, ante structure relative to the small bet is extremely important. So much so, that I would say it is the single most important factor of how you should play any stud game. Getting 2 to 1 on your steal attempt vs getting 1 to 1 or 4 to 1 makes a HUGE HUGE difference in how the game plays and dictates how often you should steal the antes, which in turn dictates how often you should resteal, etc. If you want wild aggressive games, then just make larger antes.
