Poker at The Godfather Club tonight which will coincide with the Tyson/Paul fight. Who else is playing and watching tonight? Are you pausing out for the bout or are you just slowing things down and keep orbiting?

I am of two minds, love watching Tyson in his prime but can't stand what boxing has become. 2 minute rounds and big gloves; this isn't Cus's and Rooney's Tyson, this is almost-60 Tyson. We'll see!

I’m pandering to the masses.. And curiosity.

We’re not stopping play just grinding to a near halt.
I miss the "don't blink!" fights lol. Cousin's 40th, we're watching it and hoping for the best; my uncle was scarred by Ali-Holmes back in the day, we don't want to see another legend crucified.

I think the bigger gloves is an attempt to protect the fighters (particularly Mike), but I’m wondering if it counters his ability to KO Jake. I think Mike could be a problem for about 4 rounds, but if he gets taken deeper than that I don’t see this looking good at all.

Power is always the last thing to go, so Mike has a punchers chance.

You're right, its the setups that won't be there, its the jab he can't trust any longer. I agree on the rounds. He's experienced and if he handles the adrenaline dump well he'll be okay, but 55+ is 55+ lol.
If Paul is smart he'll pretend to go crazy that first round to get the casual fans excited, then tie up and frustrate the senior until the late rounds when Mike slows and he can swing. Vast majority of fans for tonight's fight will count on one hand the boxing fights they've actually watched, so the crowd won't know a punch landing vs blocked. Mike's punches will still be there but the godlike reaction speed he leaned on so heavily won't be.

Hopefully he tries the rope-a-dope from Ali-Foreman, not the steal-judge's-hearts Leonard-Hagler. I'll never count Mike out, I still say Buster Douglas got a long count at the end there.

I was too young to watch that fight live, but going back and watching it, you’re absolutely right!
Lol, I was too, just obsessed with boxing for a long time. Favorite is Duran but I'm absolutely a Tyson apologist, his prime was incredibly short as his trainers dropped away. Lonely at the top! He didn't bother training, and Douglas had the fight of his life, dedicating it to his mother that had just died. Perfect storm! Mike looks mortal but BAM, puts Douglas on his back for 13 seconds, ref takes his time! Douglas gets back up slowly and changes history by slaying an absolute dragon of a man.

Too many of my friends believe the narrative that the first person to stand up to Tyson knocked him out, that he was just some bully; dismissive of all the talent he chewed through on the way to the titles. People stood up to him but no one remembers them because if you blinked you missed it.

(Sorry you hit a nerve lol. I don't talk boxing enough.)

You know its a rough fight when they say 'this Indian fighter was voted India's most promising fighter... in 2008.'
