Im working on a custom set and I'm curious what people prefer when it comes to high denomination chips in a set. This would usually be the chip that only hits the felt after a few rebuys and top offs and is a rare occurrence.

I don't mind a larger 43mm chip as the highest denom in a cash set knowing there might only be 1-10 of them on the table making them really stand out but for tournaments I definitely like all the same size.
This is one of the sets I use and have a barrel of Sunset Beach's as my $100 and love it!

Assuming the main set is 39mm, I could be convinced to use a 43mm for the highest denom ($100 chip in a standard lineup of frac, $1, $5, $25).

There’s something to be said for uniformity across a lineup though - all 39mm, 43mm etc.

At the end of the day, go with what you like! There’s no wrong answer.

I get what you meant in the poll, by "standard 39mm." But it's a little ironic, because the industry standard (inasmuch as there is one) for high denomination chips is 43mm.

I'm wondering the same question for a 25k in a T25 tournament set. 1000 chips without 25ks could support 30 players each with a rebuy for T$600k on the table. So 25k is kind of a luxury / way to expand the bank with just a few chips. Would this be a convenient time to go oversize? And speaking of convenience, how would you store and transport the handful (25) of 25k chips? Get a 43mm rack just for them? Pill bottle? Something else?

I do think it is both appealing and useful to make your higher and/or highest denoms stand out, whether through color/spots or size — or both.

Players seem to like the feel of having some “big chips” when they are up. It also makes it harder for anyone to not see those big chips when an opponent has them. Or for someone to make a betting mistake (putting in a larger denom than intended).

In my cash set, I graduate from spotted 39mm chips for $1/$2/$5/$25 chips, up to spotted 43mm for $100s, and spotted 48mm for (one barrel) of $500 chips. (I also have two racks of solid 39mm non-denoms for lower stakes, and another barrel of 48mm non-denoms as “just-in-case-of-an-all-weekend-marathon-game” chips.)

The truth is that the 48mms almost never get into play. I maybe should have opted instead to make the $25s 43mm and the $100s 48mm, I guess.

I question the validity of this thread/voting. 5 total plaque votes and none of them are European? Sketchy af.
