What was the one chip that you saw that got you into this hobby ? (2 Viewers)

Its been some time ago, but I remember this one. First time I really noticed an inlay and thought, "Damn that's really cool"
Pretty sure its the also the first chip I ever kept

@ovo great thread BTW

My love for poker chips came from the way they feel, the tactile pleasure of shuffling and stacking chips, the luxury of gathering a big pot in with both hands, the sound of them clinking together.

That predated any specific chip lust, but the first chip I saw that made me think "wow" was the WSOP main event 5k chip (and that set in general).
Agreed, that set is awesome but that orange 5k is something else!

I played in a tournament at a cardroom and they were using some Paulson starbursts. I just remembered how soft and buttery they felt.
I then saw some Casablanca's for sale on CT, then I knew I had to have some.

The chip that got me hooked never existed.

It was the BLGoP chips (China Clay) for the promising price of 16¢ each. I already had custom labeled ABS, but as my game grew I needed to add-on. I added on with ceramics (the ABS were no longer available) thinking they would be standard casino thickness . Since that turned out to be a disaster, I wanted a new set, and someone on HomePokerTourney mentioned the BLGoP chips and CT.

Those that know, BLGoP went belly-up, and was eventually revived by Joe and Palm Imports, this time as the CPS chips. Unfortunately, in the time it took for the CPS chips to be made, I had been around CT long enough to buy a set of CPC chips.

Somehow that spread into the need for at least one set of everything.

For me it was the Paulson Noirs:

I purchased half a dozen sample sets from Sidepot Gaming back in 2009 in an effort to put together my own very first poker chip set for some friendly home tournament games. The ceramic Archetypes and Veneratis were nice, but I couldn't get over the colors, the feel, the sound, and even the smell of the Paulsons. I of course knew nothing about Paulson at the time, and very little about clay vs composite vs ceramic chips but I was hooked. I ordered 650 Noirs for a whopping $900. I of course regret not doubling (at least) that purchase, and getting those sweet tri-moon 5k chips.

In particular, I was in love with the striking colors of the $100 chip. That black, blue, and pink is probably still my favorite chip to date.

. The $100 and $1000 Paulson classics! I guess it was around 2003? I started setting up "guys golf and poker weekends", about 2/ year. Guys would bring bags of crappy chips. I decided to find myself the best set I could find for us to use. After doing tons of research online, I was pretty disappointed with the limited options. But my research was rewarded. Everything I found pointed to the fact that paulsons were the best. So I bought 1000 classics. After shipping, it cost me nearly $1000. My friends thought I was crazy, but we all loved (and still use and love) the chips. Now I just purchased WTHC set and national poker series set from regulars here on pcf. Thanks @DMZ, @FoldKing72, @MegaTon44 ! Love my new purchases too.

Im not as big on chips as I am on cards, for me cards with friends and a couple botles of some good vine/whiskey and/or :) a couple of times a year is a must.
..because of this and a couple of other things i spent more time then i should have in casinos, I like nice things, chips are no exclusion:)), 90% of casinos I play at have green25s, black100s, pink/purple500, white1000, but 5000(biggest) yellow, im in love with paulsons pharoahs, those chips speak to me:))
Look at them down, thats a thing of beauty

..other side of the spectrum for me 1960-1980 circulated las vegas strip casino chips; imagine what these babies saw:)

Up for sale is my Paulson Pharoah's high denom set on the Paulson mold. This is the first Paulson set i bought, so i was very hesitant to sell them, but they are wasting away in my closet and I have too many tourney sets now (Horseshoe, GCOP, I would say the condition of these chips are slightly used, maybe saw the felt 6-10 times.

Noelsarchs bought everything from Spinetti's. He used to have some pretty impressive pictures on CT of the entire lot. (actually, he may have bought them from someone else, who had bought them all from Spinettis)

Do you still have these? I have not seen any come up in ages.

I believe Noelsarchs bought them from Ace Poker Chips. Ace also did the first Rounders re-makes. Sadly, I bought and sold the Rounders and also a set of the Palmas from Noelsarchs.

Saw these the first time I stayed at the Mirage before I was old enough to play there.... wanted a set after that. Very soon I will have enough of them.

Great chip! I can see why it sucked you in

Although I am struggling in comprehending "Very soon I will have enough of them."

Is there such a thing as "enough" chips???
