Hi everyone, I'm a new addition to the Poker Chip hobby. It all started with a facebook ad i clicked on at 3AM to those amazing DDLM chips from BRPoker. I am now around 1 week into the poker chip world and have tons of different web sites bookmarked and youtube videos watched. For some background: I've played poker twice in the past 20 years which happened to be a few months ago. In the early 2000s i purchased a beginners poker set which never saw the light of day till now. This rabbit hole i've been diving into has me obsessed with finding out more about poker chips. My neighborhood and social circle have a few poker nights that i'm thinking of becoming a more regular with. I've been starting my poker journey playing online with no real money exchanged as i learn. Ultimately, i just love the tactile feel of the chips and the sound with weight. I love how unique they are in art and feel.

I'm looking to purchase a few sets but not sure what to get. The DDLM or TINA molds i've seen on this forum look really great. I've been able to hold and feel monte carlos, ceramics, and other ABS or clay chips. I'm a "Buy Once Cry Once" kind of guy so i'm thinking of just investing in a 500 or 1000 count of DDLM at just over $600 from BRPoker. I also need a set to use for my tabletop wargames where I need chips to signify the money earned in game ranging from $1 up to $25k or $100k in denominations. Monopoly money has served me well, but not as tactile and satisfying as poker chips.

For now, i've been using my non-denominational Poker Stars International Tournament chips from my early 2000s set for my wargaming/RPG needs. But i think it's time to upgrade and to also invest in a good set for actual cash poker games i have available around me ($25-50 buy in, low stakes). Currently I'm debating on a set of Smoked Monte Carlos, Slowplay $125 500ct set, or going big and just investing in a ton of DDLM ceramics to cover both my poker and wargaming needs. But the 3AM obsession part of my brain says "why limit yourself to one set?".

Thank you all for having this community and to HobbyPhilic for getting me HOOKED. You know it's serious when I actually register for an account on something ;)

Welcome, tons of good people here and an abundance of great info throughout the forum, enjoy!!!

Thanks all!

Nobody can own just one set. Can they? Welcome to the land of excess.
Thank you! For a first set, i'm not sure if i judge the difference between sluggos vs ceramics as cheap vs expensive. I seem to still feel that they just feel "different" with sluggos being obviously heavier. Think Monte Carlos are a good starter set compared to my old 20 year old PSIT chips? Been debating whether Outlaws are a better sluggo at a cheaper price and greater range of denominations. I think this problem may only be resolved by buying both lol. Buying a sample pack of outlaws may be my best bet but a part of me says "just buy the set anyways" lol.

I have some sample set for you. I'm in nova if you wanted to pick up or I can ship them to you if you pay for shipping.

Welcome to the community! DDLM is a fun set that my players love. But you might as well just buy once and cry once by buying 5 or 10 sets all at once. Then you can mix it up all you want. And you are still only crying once even though it may be a bit harder of a cry. Lol
