I haven't seen this type of woman at the table, but I have definitely seen female players who use the distractability of the men you describe to gain an edge.
Here’s a recent experience which almost sent me over the edge, except that it wound up being profitable... I’m going to make a long story of this, so due warning... Some may want to skip. And I should say at the outset that it is difficult to describe such table dynamics without seeming sexist. I have played with many smart, non-flirty female players who are night and day apart from the following player’s behavior.
So:
I sat down around 7 pm (casino 1/2 game, 10-handed) two to the left of a blonde woman in a baseball cap, maybe 24-26 years old, I would say. Neither a college student nor a 30something. There was a guy to her left of about the same age, with whom she was chatting constantly in a
very animated way. It wasn’t clear if they knew each other previously, but based on what followed I think not.
She mentioned had been there since the morning, and somehow had amassed a stack of about $1,100... Somehow, because I soon noticed she would limp/call with any hand of roughly J7o or better. This player seldom raised preflop, and that was always a pocket pair or AK, but flatted a ton. Would often donk the flop but give up and often show her hand on later streets when folding, as if to say “aren’t I unlucky with my unsuited Broadways/missed straight draws/middle pairs...”
In other words, fishy and action-y early, fit-or-fold late. She must have had a couple of a major suckouts earlier in the day to get those chips, because she managed to donk them all off over the next 3+ hours.
This person also would order another (free) mixed drink any time a waitress reappeared, and generally seemed to want to be the center of attention—but only when there was a guy her age at the table.
Anyway.
Within a couple orbits, I busted the guy who had thus far been the object of her attention, on a hand where I’d defended my big blind with T6s against his $5 straddle from UTG+3. (You can straddle from any position at this casino.) The straddle had already gotten called by two other fishy-seeming players. So, $3 to call with a pot which would become $20, plus the possibility of 1-2additional calls. It already seemed so far at this table that a lot of people were straddling but not jamming over limpers when it came back to them, as so often happens at live low stakes. So the $3 seemed like a decent investment even with such a speculative hand. The woman in question also called, so $25 to the flop after the straddler checked.
I caught a flush draw and gutshot straight draw on the flop, called her $20 UTG bet, straddler called. She bet $20 on the turn, straddler called, I shoved my made flush, she folded (what she said was top pair) and the straddler called with an overpair.
The guy didn't rebuy and left, but the woman seemed more crestfallen than he was... Started berating me for playing T6s, and kept mentioning it over and over over the course of the session. I did not respond, not wanting to help her or anyone else at the table play better by understanding why I might defend my big blind with at least ~6:1 odds or better, and decent implied odds. (Eventually I said, “I really don’t mind being reminded of hands I won,” and then she let it go.) I got the strong sense that she was mad not about putting $45 into a pot she eventually folded, but that I’d sent the object of her attention packing.
Without the 20something guy there, the woman became almost silent for a couple orbits, as if sulking... Until the empty seat to her left was filled by a different 20something guy, and her bright mood instantly returned: Dancing in her chair, whooping if she won a small pot, giving nicknames to each player at the table,
etc.
This continued right up until the moment when the new guy left about an hour later, and did not resume until once again a guy of her age joined the table, this time to her right. (The two were to my immediate left.)
These two seemed to know each other; and though the guy mentioned his wife in a conversation with another player, I couldn't help noticing her hand creeping onto his thigh several times... They got progressively closer and closer, to the extent that you’re not already close at a 10-handed table. Her excitability, verging on hysteria, kept mounting, even as her once-huge stack (for 1/2 anyway) kept dwindling.
The married young guy who seemed to be enjoying the fondling—I also overheard some pretty explicit propositioning from the woman—won a few big pots then did a hit-and-run, leaving her alone.
The woman—pretty drunk by this time—resumed her sullen and withdrawn schtick, with no age-appropriate object of her affection present, again stopping all the chatter and hilarity. I ended up taking her last $90 or so. Being to their right.
This distracting, attention-seeking behavior did semi-tilt me, and normally I would have just changed tables. But it was a profitable table, overall, and I so I managed to stay just below tilt level and take advantage not just of her fishy play but the rest of the table’s as well.
Now, had this person’s chatter and flirting and whoops been constant throughout the 3+ hours, I would think it was either an angle, or just an irrepressible personality. But it was limited specifically to those orbits when a guy of her age was present, so this seemed to be more in the Dating Game category.
Take all that for what it’s worth. It doesn't come up often, or in such an extreme way, but I have seen other players (male or female) who seem more preoccupied with flirtation than the game’s action.
