Tourney What tilts you? (4 Viewers)

That site also lists J5 off-suit as the 82nd best hand, ahead of Q9 suited at 83rd, and 43 suited at 84th. I didn't look any more into, but is that page some sort of satire?
I think the picture's wrong because the text says J5 suited and the next one is Q9 off suit (both picture and text).

Edit: Just found something that tilts me. Sites that list suited/unsuited pairs and use the same color cards for small illustrations, albeit with different suits, to represent off suit. Suited should be the same color and suit, offsuit should be one red and one black. It can be a bitch to see the difference on a phone!

K9 on the button with 9bb and only the blinds left to act is a no-brainer shove in my book.

The only exception to this MIGHT be if somebody at the table only had a couple BBs left and finishing one place higher would mean a significant increase in your payout. Even then, I'm not sure I can imagine a payout structure that would make it worthwhile to do anything other than shove. It would have to be a pretty significant jump in payout.

I cannot stand bad beat stories. I've seen pretty much everything in poker with watching tv, playing online and playing live combined. As soon as someone says I was holding XX and the flop came out XXX then I checked raised....I just switch off.

I was also playing at the casino the other week and the drunk guy sitting to my left who reeked of beer and cigarettes kept infiltrating my pod space to give himself more legroom. I nearly got into a brawl with him until his wife intervened and apologised to me for his behaviour. The guy also took all my money a few hands later...

Has PokerStars fixed the betting denominations yet in a tourney? You know when people bet stupid amounts like 1354k when the blinds are 25/50. In real life you cannot bet that amount because of the chip denominations being to the nearest T5.

It doesnt tilt me really, but I just leave the table if there are guys with bad attitude, like swearing at the cards, the dealer or other players...

Definitely waiting on those who aren't paying attention when the action is on them.
How about "What are the blinds?" questions when the clock and poker genie are right there in front of them...:meh:

It may have been said already, but in tournaments, people who sit there counting out exact change to call a bet, instead of just announcing call, so the action can continue. This is particularly annoying when it’s an old guy with shaky hands and if the chips are a bit sticky - it can kill ten seconds.
But it goes for everybody - unless you’re just tossing out a one or two chip call, for the love of god, just announce call!
Oh, and if we’re lucky enough that somebody DOES announce their action prior to counting out the chips, and then the next player sits there waiting for the chips to go in, before they act? I’d like to strangle them too.
KEEP IT MOVING, PEOPLE!

I haven't really tilted in quite some time. Last night was a different story. My timing was off on damn near every move/play that I made. @ChaosRock continues to get into my head during tourney play.

Thanks for hosting last night bud. Bubbs chips are some of my favorites.

Jojobinks on Chiptalk used to do that all the time and it doesn’t really tilt me, except to the extent I start to realize that it’s purposeful effort to enter in every bet to try to tilt other people which makes it a purposeful semi-douche move which did kind of annoy me.

I often bet an amount like 1397 to round out my stack amount to something ending in zeros. I don’t do it for any strategic advantage, or even just to be annoying, but just because I like the round numbers. If P* stops making 368 half of a 725 pot, I’ll stop making odd size bets. I’ll also quit doing if the rest of the guys in the games complain about it, because I’m a nice guy. :D

Things that tilt me ....
1) People that don't follow the rules, and when I enforce them I get bitched at.
2) People eating hot dogs at the table and spilling mustard on the playing surface, even after I have told them repeatedly NO FOOD AT THE TABLE.
3) People who think its funny to repeatedly tease me thinking its fun. (Pretty sure a throat punch would fix the teasing).
4) People who don't put their chips out front to be chipped up. They bugger off enjoy the break, and I don't get a break. I've added a rule that if you don't put your chips out, I remove them from the game. I like to have a break too.
5) People who leave the venue and don't offer to help clean up. (Clean up is defined as putting the table topper back on, and folding up the second table, pretty easy, huh?)
6) People who leave cans of beer or soda with liquids still in them. Someone did this and the can hit the floor and splashed the inside of the table top. NOT HAPPY.
7) People who ask me to deal with the computer (knocking people out, stopping the clock, fixing the clock, etc) when I am in a hand. Shut up and wait.

I could go on, but I wont...

Lots of these for sure.
Adding to your #7 when you're the host -
Table 2 bitching 1 second after someone gets knocked out "we need a player, we need a player" while you're in a hand.

I've probably already replied to this thread but as a host the following tilts me:

Not cleaning up after yourself. I shouldn't have to pick up beer cans and/or hot dog plates the next morning.

Bitching about my structure, rules, point system, bonuses or whatever. I'd love to see how you run it at your game.....oh wait.

And new for this year - I didn't get a seat, waa waa waa.

I have yet to host a night when I didn't find something the next morning. These are 30+ year old men, the trash can is right there. Also, the floaters really piss me off. Who doesn't finish a beer? Or, who uses 1/4 of a bottle of tonic and leaves the cap off? I'll admit, the end of the night gets fuzzy sometimes, but I have never done either of those, especially in someone else's house.

A pilot list:
  • When someone insists on pulling previous bets into the pot when a player raises, even when it is not necessary or helpful
  • Players who make change out of live bets when the action is still open
  • House rules that penalize players for not betting or raising with the nuts on the river (or in any way attempt to dictate actions that are supposed to be the player's choice)
  • Players who try to bully other players into doing a deal or agreeing to an unfavorable deal near the end of a tourney
  • Staking arrangements that motivate players to collude (e.g., two guys playing in the same tourney with a 60/40 piece of each other

Ooo.... you're first two bullets absolutely STEAM me. So much so that one of the primary entries in my house rules addresses them:

6. Only the dealer touches the current deck, community cards, and other people’s bets. If necessary, the dealer will make change from the pot when action is complete. No coloring up from the pot.

I believe this was once an accepted rule, and was enforced for WSOP events. As such, it is more than a "house rule".

I don't like it, but I understand why it existed*.

*It may or may not still exist for WSOP events. I think my chances of playing in a WSOP event this year are near zero, so I haven't read them lately.

As a host, I'm tilted if people say they're coming, and don't show, or show up 30 minutes late, or think basic rules or etiquette are stupid and say stuff like "just let us play. This isn't a casino!"
I ran into that last month had a bunch of people "I'm coming" and no one showed. Honestly it's so frustrating. I have 10 more coming tomorrow for a game we shall see what turnout I get. Proper etiquette is important to me also, since this will be my first hosted home game I'm interested to see how this group will respond to my rules.

People who don't realize it's there action, or who gets pissed when you remind them when dealing a game.

The problem with this rule is that it penalizes players who often don't know what "the nuts" is. Is this rule worth driving such soft money out of the game?

I believe it still is in many places, quite possibly including the WSOP. And it's a terrible, stupid rule that doesn't even accomplish what it's supposed to.

What it does do, however, is give inexperienced players a way to get a surprise penalty for an "offense" that doesn't even make sense. I'm sure they'll be rushing back to the tables after they were called out in front of everyone and made to sit in the corner for an orbit over something they didn't understand.

Yes, it sucks when people soft-play their buddies, but this rule doesn't stop that at all and introduces its own new problem.

As I said, I don't like the rule. I'm not likely to enforce the penalty, unless there were repeated offences... which is unlikely to be detected.

We have other methods for sniffing out soft-play, and that is against the rules. The famous Darvin Moon example was a stupid penalty on a guy that was obviously not trying to soft-play anybody.

...but I'm not going to be tilted for a host trying to enforce it. I would be more tilted by the fact that I had the nuts and didn't realize/capitalize on it.
