Happy weekend everyone!

I'm going to be hosting a home tournament and want to know what the best blind structure is for a 6 person tournament which I would want to last from 3-4 hours.

I want to allow for multiple buy-ins (from the current set up I calculated up to 5 buy-ins each - open to other suggestions though). Do note, that we would play for really low buy-ins ($5) to keep it more fun and chill.

I'm just stuck on what blind structure I should use.

Here is my chip stack:
- $25 (50pcs)
- $100 (100pcs)
- $500 (100pcs)
- $1000 (100pcs)
- $5000 (50pcs)

Here is my initial buy-in stack of 10,000:
- 8x ($25)
- 8x ($100)
- 6x ($500)
- 6x ($1000)

This would allow for roughly 34 buy-ins with the remaining chips.

What blind structure would be best to use for this set up?

Open to any other ideas with this chip set up - if it means a slightly higher buy-in amount but less buy-ins allowed like max only 2.

I would probably raise the buy-in to $10. With either structure, it should end by the designated level, but with the increased buy-in and the structure, you should not expect more than 2-3 rebuys total, and you could choose to cap it at 1-2 rebuys per person if you’re worried about buy-ins being $10 instead of $5. Each format has enough chips to cover at least one rebuy per player, but expect it to run a level later if you’re averaging close to a rebuy per player.

For a base T25:
8/13/7/5 (T10K) - Rebuys of 0/0/0/5/1
15 minute levels
25/50
25/75
50/100
75/150
100/200
150/300
Break - Color Up T25s - End Rebuys
200/400
300/600
400/800
600/1200
800/1600
Break - Color Up T100s
1000/2000
1500/3000
2000/4000 (Estimated EOT, 3:30)
3000/6000
4000/8000
6000/12000
8000/16000

For a base T100:
15/7/10/1 (T20K) - Rebuys of 0/0/0/4
18 minute levels
100/100
100/200
100/300
200/400
300/600
Break - End Rebuys
400/800
600/1200
800/1600
1100/2200
1500/3000
Break - Color Up T100 and T500
2000/4000
3000/6000
4000/8000 (Estimated EOT, 3:44)
6000/12000
8000/16000

@TheRealStephen12 appreciate you taking the time to write this out. This helps a lot, thanks!!

Btw why do you recommend buying in for $10 (+ less amount of times) - is it because it would be easier to manage (less work for the poker bank and for people having to bring loose cash) and because it means less people blindly going all-in or is there another reason?

Also for a 6 player tourney what would you recommend the pay out structure to be - winner takes all, or winner takes 75% and 2nd place takes 25%, or any other way?

Thank you again.

When the stakes are set such that folks are comfortable and allowed to rebuy repeatedly it can easily become a shove fest. Buy in should be set such that folks can afford to rebuy if it makes strategic sense but not so low that they can just all in repeatedly until they catch a double up.

I’ve run a low stakes all in or fold tournament which is a lot of fun but for a “standard tournament” I agree it sounds like you should do $10 and 1 or 2

Makes sense. Thank you very much for your input! Will follow this suggested approach then :)

When your buy in is so low it turns into an all in fest because hey! I can rebuy for $5. The buy in has to hurt at least a little to get to playing real poker.

Makes total sense @BPTDirector - cheers for your input too!

For a “fun and chill” game as you described it, paying 2 is just fine. I’d say 2:1 to keep it easy, paid like so:

$60: $40/20
$70: $50/20
$80: $50/30
$90: $60/30
$100: $70/30
$110: $70/40
$120: $80/40

You will not have more than $120 if you limit rebuys to 1 per player.

This forum rocks! Thanks @TheRealStephen12, wishing you a lovely weekend!
