What are your chipping goals? When do you reach your "chipping nirvana" ? (1 Viewer)

All in good fun Larry. @Anthony Martino has been much too quiet on his tourney expedition to pick on #shortamerica
Besides, I'm fairly confident you are prepared to fire back when needed ;)
I've seen that man yell at multiple clouds at one time. He's a gentleman's professional.

I think my goal is now: one nice cash set of paulsons (where I like the inlay/chip colour. The longer I’m here, the more I realise I’m not going to buy a Paulson just because it’s a Paulson. Some chips out there are just not that appealing to me), one custom set of card mold ceramics (whenever the next group buy occurs), and mayyybe one set of CPC customs.

Not too long ago I was in a one and done camp. Now it’s up to 3 sets. But no more, I’m 99% sure.
Wondering if people’s chipping goals have changed.

I acquired my cards mold set a few months ago and my players like them a lot.

I’m still looking to potentially pick up a clay (Paulson or CPC) cash set but am biding my time. What I thought this second set would be has morphed several times, but I’m leaning Paulson. There definitely won’t be a third set now, though.

Sounds like the classic chipping journey to me...

I bought Dunes CC and thought they were the best thing ever. After one game I sold them and bought DDLM ceramics, which I just listed after 3 games. I've just finished my RHC relabels...I think the only hope for me is to quit the forum or see if Tommy can hide the classifieds from my account  :ROFLMAO:

I caught the bug around 8 years ago and thought "a custom chipco set is all I need" but once I got it, I found i was less than satisfied.... a chipco cash set (The club, Everett WA).... bigger Chipco cash set (Hard Rock), and then BCC happened, (Garden City) then Paulson (RHC Aztar, THC Empress). I thought I was good after The Empress chips and it was almost 5 years of serenity, playing tourneys, cash games and enjoying them all. Then Covid hit, and now Bud Jones is in the house, and TRK is f'ing raging wide open.... and I still think there's an H-mold, and perhaps a cool old hotstamp set I might want to see in play. I definitely have a pattern, I don't feel the urge to have more than one of each type.... so I think I'm imna better place than so many others (I started tagging... but then I realized there's too many of you, just lost out there, lol).

We really liked our garden city's that was one of the first sets we built. And then we also built out the Ace's casino... didn't need 2 oversized inlay RHC sets lol
Absolutely love our hot stamps too
We really enjoy having a variety of chips to play with... it's nice to be able to pick something different once in awhile lol
Although I can say there's some trends of sets that are chosen more regularly than others

I was working on an RHC relabel set, but have swapped gears to a THC milling project. Still planning to do a CPC set in the future, may have to wait until the prices come back down though lol

You plan for CPC prices to drop at some point? Hmm don't think that's happening.

also a custom cpc set, if i can ever sit down and figure out what the artwork would be..

Supposedly they will be coming back down (somewhat) when the "supply shortage" is over

David announced and raises the prices every year and people seem to make a big deal out of it but the increase is just by a few pennies per chip. I wouldn’t ever expect the prices to drop below 2021 pricing. He pre-announced a price increase last week which shouldn’t be a surprise. He mentioned materials shortages, which is certainly a real thing being experienced by all kinds of manufacturers. We will see this week if the increase is nominal like in past years or if it is a serious unprecedented jump.

At the moment though CPCs aren’t the premium prices product that they used to be relative to Paulsons. As long as you are conscious of the pricing you can still design epic sets for reasonable prices. Sure some people go crazy with L11 spots but there are awesome spots L3-L5 and good color choice and combinations and a nice inlay design take you much closer to an epic set than crazy spot patterns. My upcoming Casa Mango cash set has pricey shaped inlays on $1-$100 with great bright DG colors and still only cost about $3/chip on average. The Casa Mango tournament set was $2.50/chip also with great multi colored spots.

And to answer the OP, these CPC sets are going to be the culmination of my chipping experience and pretty close to my Nirvana.

I'm not doubting this, but where and when was this announced?

For this upcoming year? The pre announcement is below and he is supposed to make it official this week. But like I said, he just announced that there will be a price increase. He didn’t say what it will be and it won’t go in effect until 2022. He similarly has always announced past years price increases in his vendor forum.

Bummer.

I definitely have to put my projects on the backburner for a couple more years then.

I was aware of the annual increases, and I don't think his prices are out of line, but then again they seem so affordable because Paulson's are so ridiculously priced right now. Times are weird right now, I wasn't complaining per say, more hopeful of what could possibly change in the future. It's relative anyway I won't be able to do anything CPC until artwork is ready, and that's on hold. Either way I'd have no issue paying for the fully custom aspect as well as brand new chips. But for the price I have seen some less than sellable quality chips leave their factory.

A few years ago: CPCs are the end goal! But they're crazy expensive, because there's so much manual labor in making them. Buy THCs in the meantime.

Today: THCs are the end goal! But they're crazy expensive, because they aren't making any more of them. Buy CPCs in the meantime.

Haha, it was the opposite for me.

Although my feelings relate more to the importance I place on personalization/customization.

I admit that I walked away from a few other purchase opportunities, and once again am looking at the CPC chip tool.

I'm just not a fan of their Hot Stamp mold options.

I really feel like I'm getting close to a balance that I'm content with. For me it's about getting chips into play since that's where I enjoy them the most.

PNY set - still love this set, though it hasn't hit the felt as much
Aurora Star cash - really love this set and love the mix of 43mm from $25 and $100. Toying around with creating a custom $500.
Crystal Park set - I've resisted these chips for years, but finally got a set earlier this year and I love how they feel. Still rounding out the edges on it to make it complete as well
BCC Protege cash set - new for me, but I'm liking it so far. Ended up selling my Abbiati cash set after getting this one in. Also sold a Cape Isle Girardeau set.
Mixed THC cash set - almost done here as well, just a couple more racks of Casa 5s and I'm done.
CPC custom set - submitted an order. They should hopefully arrive mid to late next year.
Card mold set - why not, I just want to try them out. Ordered a cash set (Sacramento Casino) and a tourney set (Aria)

That's more sets that I can reasonable get into play so maybe heavy loaded overall. It's never easy when it comes time to decide if you want to sell a set and if so, which one.

My recent urge to buy a new set has subsided greatly and I've only been browsing in hopes of fill out my current sets. Let's see how long that lasts :) Last year I turned off notifications in the classified for about 4 months before I turned it back on.

My unrealistic chipping Nirvana: win the lottery / become a millionaire and have enough money to throw at GPI to create a custom set for my own private cardroom.

My realistic chipping Nirvana: own CPC Rounders + Chesterfield Club cash sets.
u still going for this?

1. Custom CPC cash set
2. Custom CPC tourney set
3. Custom Paulson Relabel cash set
4. Custom Paulson Relabel tourney set
5. NAGB cash set
6. NAGB tourney set
7. Cali cash set
8. Limit set
9. Grail set
10. Collector don’t use set

LOL

Well, there's a CPC set in the works, but not Rounders or Chesterfield Club.

Bought a losing lottery ticket about a month ago — so no movement on the private card room NAGB.
i want a chesterfield club 25c/25c set... maybe with a custom 5 and 20

Custom sets for me. There are a lot of great looking casino/card room paulsons out there, but these don't mean anything to me unless I have a personal connection with them (which will probably never happen).

This thread was recently bumped and my post received a new reaction, reminding me of it and giving me a moment to reflect.

I’m still sitting on only the cards mold set and I’m glad I took my time because it seems that prices have come down and in the interim I’ve had a chance to play some CPCs, RHCs, THCs, and house mold chips at other games. Playing the sets has given me a more useful feel than shuffling a sample stack. I came away with new and probably controversial perspectives:
  • THC looks better than RHC, but only minutely
  • THC and RHC feel different, and I can’t say one is better or worse. They’re just different
  • House molds are actually way cooler than I thought they would be. A debossed name that points to a specific property is quite a bit more charming than a border of hats and canes (a tad random and cheesy)
  • House molds also feel different, and again, I can’t say better or worse. Just different
  • CPCs feel worse. The ones I handled felt light and rough. Some may prefer that texture though.
  • When playing, none of the above matters. At all. The difference in feel between THC, RHC, house molds, CPC, and ceramics is insignificant and forgotten after a shuffle.

Despite all that, I still might want to add one 500-600 chip clay cash set of THC, RHC, or house molds. Perhaps even a mixed set, something I thought I would be dead set against. No rush though. Maybe prices will become even more attractive.

I’m also now a bit curious about high-end plastics. I commonly find posts stating they’re too slippery, but I’m sceptical now after reading so many posts exaggerating the difference between THC and RHC.
