Love my boss. We were changing air valve out on the bio reactors. Gorgeous day to be forced outside. Lol.

Jelly. It’s -14 Celsius here and snowed most of yesterday. Winter comes every year but I still don’t like it. Been to Texas twice in my life. I really should make a third trip and just stay. Lol

Ya I remember being there 25 years ago thinking a long sleeve shirt in April was nice. They people I visited talked about the time it snowed 15 years earlier. I really like the idea of visiting snow and then being able to leave it behind. lol

Here’s the burn pile 20 hours later:

It was built around a dead tree I had to cut down last year. In the past the stump burned along with the branches/brush, but this one went up fast, in the wind, leaving the tree behind. Now trying to hollow it out from the inside, which can also sometimes burn/sever the roots.

I bet the aurora from there on a moonless night is just sublime.

(I've been lucky to see it from northern climes and in dark-ish skies. Utterly beautiful and surreal all at the same time. Color me officially jealous. )

I lived in Alaska for four months… The landscape / terrain is just bonkers and these photos give a sense of the staggering sights one encounters daily.

Winter storm bringing down branches. The back yard is even worse, but I'm not going out there until the freezing rain stops.

Views from my first shift at the new observatory. Super busy the first two mostly clear nights learning the new setup, but a winter storm came through southern Arizona bringing snow and plenty of ice at the observatory and higher elevations in the area. The skies cleared earlier today allowing me to take a couple photos while assessing the situation in the afternoon.

Snow covered mountaintop and trees seen through one of the open vent doors in the side of the telescope building. The snow-free desert valley seen below.

A view of the Willcox Playa off in the distance. This is a (usually) dry lakebed that sticks out in satellite views and is near a busy east/west flight corridor which means view of it from above is possible from a plane on that path.

Finally, a view of sunset from the window of our common area and dining room windows. Unfortunately, despite the clear skies we're closed because there's enough ice on the building that we can't risk opening to prevent ice falling in and on the telescope and instruments.
