I feel like I'm clogging up the forum with this thread, but there seems to be a couple of different schools of thought. Going to be milling and labeling my first Paulson tourney set and don't want to buy stupid quantities.

8 max 3 tables is what I'm looking to support with this one with hopefully some room to grow on occasion.

T25 base/T10k starting stack with rebuys

12/12/5/6
starting stack seems like it is ideal. More chips, even though value is the same, seems to play better at the lower levels.

Exact quantities are probably less here, but I've rounded out to fill racks or barrels.

T25 - 300x
T100 - 300x
T500 - 100x
T1000 - 200x
T5000 - 40x

  • Do I need this many T25 and T100 or should I bump it down to 2 racks each? Maybe increase T1k and T5K?
  • Is it dumb and pretty much pointless to add 2k, 10k, and/or 25k chips? I know it's not necessary, but I like too many colors and can't decide which to put on the chopping block lol
Any input is greatly appreciated.

Regarding 25k, that depends on how many chips you get in play. If you're 20 players and 5 rebuy, that's 250,000 which is 10 times the 25k, in which case a 25k is definitively not needed. If you offer addons you could get a chip count of 400k-500k, in which case a 25k could be used but isn't necessary. Same thing but 20k stacks and you have around a million in chips, which would make the 25k chip necessary.

Regarding 2k and 10k, I would never have them in the same tournament as the 1k and 5k, but you could still buy them and alternate between 25/100/500/1000/5000 and 25/100/500/2000/10000. That's what I've done with my milanos.

Really? I did a lot of searching in this forum and just about every breakdown I saw had 500 at the lowest quantities?

You're both right. You don't need many T500 since you have T1000s. T500 are never the work horses with that many T1000 around because you never need to use more than one per bet.

However, you need more T500!

8 max 3 tables is what I'm looking to support with this one with hopefully some room to grow on occasion.

So 24 players if we discard room to grow.

12/12/5/6

That means 24×5=120 T500 are needed. And get extras.

T25 - 300x
T100 - 300x
T500 - 100x
T1000 - 200x
T5000 - 40x

100 is too few.

BTW, in the 8/8/4/7 vs 12/12/5/6 debate I sit firmly in the 16/16/4/6 camp ;-)

We play 8/18/12/2 and really only use 1000s for color ups. My guys hold onto their oranges like they're real cash chips. I'd rather have more chips in play...

I think I’m more confused than when I started this thread now :banghead:

Don't be :)

Step 1: Get enough to cover your starting stacks, i.e., 24 × each of 12/12/5/6

Step 2: Since all 25, 100 and 500 will be colored-up before the end, a total value of 24×(12×25+12×100+5×500)=96,000 needs to be covered by additional chips. Get 20 T5000 for this purpose.

Step 3: Get even more T5000 if you will ever play deeper stacks, e.g. 12/12/5/6/2 for T20k.

Step 3.5: If you will ever play deep enough to have over 800k in play, get some 25k. Oversized are cool. Plaques are cooler!
Note that with this much on the table the T1000 will be colored up as well, meaning you need 24×6×1000=144000 extra in chips, preferably 6×T25k.

Step 4: Get extras of all denoms.

Step 5: Get samples! This should probably be step 1...

Thanks for the tips. This all definitely helps. So which denom is the workhorse and actually tends to get the most use?

I actually have 2 racks of the 5k chips on the way, but trying to figure out what I need to keep. 1k I have 3 racks on the way. I'll probably get a barrel for 25K even though they won't see action much if ever. I don't mind having too many. I just want to make sure I have enough 25, 100, and 500.

I'm definitely way past stage 1 and getting samples is what did it LOL. Currently have about 9 racks of THC Paulson for the mixed cash set I'm working on. I'm new to hosting though and structuring a tourney.

Ok so obviously not the perfect quantities, but how would you guys work this.

I know T500 is usually the lowest quantity, BUT it’s my favorite color chip plus I literally have tons of them. Plus I think I’m topped out on being able to find any more blaze T1000. Thinking maybe the T500 could take up some slack for the T100 and T1000 - or should I just pick up another T100 rack?

  • T25 - 300x
  • T100 - have 200x now, should I really try to find another rack?
  • T500 - 600x available lol obviously wouldn’t use this this many, but how many should I use?
  • T1000 - 211x
  • T5000 - 100x

Just a thought, because I know that you are having trouble finding green chips that you like...start with T100. Here is something that I drew up where rebuys start with T1000. You could tweak it to use more T500 and less T1000...and less than 50k starting stacks. But I like this.

I think I’m going to play it safe with day green. Although I’ve pretty much already agreed to a trade for like 500+ thc solids I won’t be using :dead:
