There seems to be several threads on this, but not a general one….at least I couldn’t find it …turbos, T100 vs T500, etc

Looking to put in a large order for a cash and tournament set of Tina chips. We used to host a T5 tournaments many years ago, but I have not hosted any tournaments in 12 years. Reading through the threads it seems that the T500 structure is popular for its efficient use of chips. So I’m thinking of going this route versus the T100 tournaments that most casinos in Atlantic City run (where myself and many of my players play)

I’m looking for suggestions for total amount of chips and denominations for up to a 20 person tournament. Also, is there a consensus on the most ideal blind structure for a 5 to 6 hour tournament? Best and most efficient starting stacks. We used to have a rebuy period that went until level 3. Also had ad ons at that level, which was popular at the time in AC but not sure if I’ll continue withe that.

It seems that the recommendation for 10 people is a rack each of 500, 1000, 5000, 25,000s. So just double for 20? Is it useful to have a small amount of 100K chips?

Here is this current set that I’ve been working on in the chip maker app. The 500 chips start with purple and ends with a possible 100K chip in off white. Also interested in any feedback on the chips themselves.

My father is currently working on the label design….but it will be a dark center with a theme for 250th anniversary of the country…and the use of a design I created 20 years ago (not pictured)

THANKS!

If you go 80/160/160/x or 120/240/240/x you'll be more efficient than 200/200/200/x (the latter reduces change making). I would get either 80/160/160/80/20 or 120/240/240/80/20.

The following structure should work with starting stacks of 4/8/8/2 or 6/12/12/1. Give each player one rebuy/add-on chip, then they can rebuy if they bust before the first break or add-on at the break. You should be done in less than 6 hours with breaks.

18 Minute Levels
500/500
500/1K
500/1.5K
1K/2K
1.5K/3K
Break - Color Up 500s
2K/4K
3K/6K
4K/8K
6K/12K
8K/16K
Break - Color Up 1Ks
10K/20K
15K/30K
20K/40K
30K/60K
40K/80K
Break - Color Up 5Ks
50K/100K
75K/150K
100K/200K (Est. EOT with 40 entries)
150K/300K
200K/400K

I’m in the same boat as you and I read all of the threads I could find including the ones you read ha.

As you said, and as I saw BGinGA suggest, doing 100 of each denom works for a flexible 10 person set of 10/10/7/x starting stacks. It’s likely that your old T5 base tournaments had the same stacks. So if you like familiarly then that’s a great option.

But as pointed out by Stephen, it’s not the best use of T500 chips. The best use would be the 6/12/12/x starting stacks. You have all of the T500’s you need and change making happens less often. When you colour up the T500’s, you are only removing 15% of the chips, not 25% like 10/10/7/x, this is part of the efficiency of the breakdown, plus, you are starting off with 120 of the T5000 on the table (vs 70-100 from the first option) which are really useful Mid-Late game.

I am personally using ten T100K chips in my set of 400 with the intention of using them for easy rebuys in a 100K starting stack, or as a 50% add on in a 200K starting stack. I don’t think the T100K is ‘necessary’, but since you are designing your own chips I would go with it!

Since it’s a Tina order and you said you are ordering many chips. I would make sure to order at least a hundred T500 and twenty five T100K just to give you the option to have either of the two main breakdowns discussed. Will only cost you about $30 to be safe.

You know….i was thinking the same! Like…”why am I just not sticking to what we did”? But it’s Tina chips and they are cheap I guess.

Our tournament structure 23 years ago was based on the reality that we all each just had a 1000 chip set of ASM chips I had to make the most of it for 30 players. Yes, I did use the fives that I also use for cash games, but never had a single problem where ever lost a chip

Our starting stacks were pretty small at 20 so they would all fit in racks. Add-ons were extra 1000k chips (2000k at the end of the level three rebuy) We did 10-6-3-1 (5, 25, 100, 500)

I think 6 of the base denom is a little light and makes for more change making
This would be very true if it weren’t a T500. The most you’ll ever need in a pot is 4, since each bet only uses 1 before an increase to the 1K chip. Having 4 is obviously a bit slim and I wouldn’t recommend it, but it’s still usable at that stage.

You are right for sure.

But I think in this case, it being the T500 chip, and it also being the smallest chip, makes it the perfect exception.

I think of it like this, you are giving up 40% of the T500 chips (which you only ever need 1 per person, per bet), to be able to have 40% more T1K and T5K. The T500’s are only used for 1/4 of the game (depending on blinds) while the T1K’s last half and T5K’s last the entire game (again depending on blinds and how deep it goes). So part of the comment about not making change also factors in later levels, and not just the first few where you might need to make more change because of only 6 chips. I think it also depends on the group and how people bet. Some people only bet in increments of 1K, so a group might only use like 1 or 2 per pot lol.

So I just think overall, the T500 is the perfect chip to get away with not having around 10 per stack.

This.

I am firmly in the
6-12-12-x camp
Same thinking for cash sets that use .50 chips
