OK so I done messed up and I have way too many players coming to my tournament next weekend. Last couple of tournaments, I have only drawn 15-16 players so I cast my net a little wider.

I can comfortably seat 26-27 but as of now I have 33 confirmed. I am happy to sit out myself and play TD, and I know there will be the inevitable late withdrawals -but I am still faced with the possibility of not being able to physically seat everyone.

One option is to add a 4th table but the only practical location would be to put it in the garage while the other the tables are in the house. Not great. I could also tell the last few RSVPs they are on the waitlist, that makes the most sense.

I am considering a "bullpen" type system where players are seated in order of arrival. Late arrivals would be added to the bullpen and would enter the tournament when a seat opens up. Players who bust out in the re-buy period would then go into the bullpen and wait for the next available seat to open up... Anyone ever done or seen something like this??

FYI - this is a "just for fun" $20 buy-in / $20 add-on tournament, if that makes a difference...

I like the waiting list bullpen idea. Maybe just widen and lengthen the rebuy period and shorten the stacks so more rebuys happen.

What do you want to do long term?

If you want to cap it around 3 tables, then I would suggest wait list the last 5 people

8 per table (4 tables) would make for a nice tourney, but sounds like its a NLH game anyway so has to be all scrubs / tourists ;) - you could class up the place and make it a mix games tourney :cool

If you are doing rebuys the wait list will likely leave before all the rebuys are done. If its not hot in the garage or smell like gas its likely fine.

Maybe put soft drinks in the garage so people have to go out there a bit, so it doesn't feel like an island

What I hear you say is that I should plan a trip to FV next weekend...

Who am I kidding? I would be first out so I should save the gas money and just go ahead and send you the $20.

Definitely go to a waitlist. Use the RSVP order to see who is in to start and who is waiting.

Also, to make sure players are on time for the start of the tournament, anyone on the waitlist can move up and take the seat of someone that is not on time from the RSVP list.

Several local hosts in my area do this and it works well to make sure the game is full and starts in time.

Btw, this is a good problem to have!!

This is pretty common in casinos, they can only seat x many and anyone else is an “Alternate” and listed in order of buyin time. As players bust out the Alternates take seats with full stacks.

It’s ok, but can suck in a rebuy tournament where the alternates come in with a starting stack with only one bullet and already behind average chip stack - and at higher blind levels!
Not as bad in a freeze out, then they only start slightly behind chip average and usually come in at reasonable blind levels.
A freeze out bounty might work as a good compromise if you have to get extra money into the game.

Do you have a door from your house to the garage? Keep it open and then it's like they are in the house. 4 tables this time, next time limit to 3 tables.

Also if extras confirm, there is still no-show attrition....might all work out anyway.
