Tiger Palace Rarity Chart (4 Viewers)

I knew he was the designer. He wasn't involved in the distribution at all then? So then KK would be the only one with the knowledge of how many of each were manufactured.
I’d imagine some people at Paulson also know.

I realize this isn’t helpful but “Post reply” is just one button and takes less effort than deleting the sentence.

Though I guess typing all of this took entirely more time than deleting it.

Wait what are we talking about?

It was late and I was tired of scraping threads...

FYI, for everyone, these are also in the Tiger Palace Showcase Thread and elsewhere. Not telling you where so you have to DIY...lol

I heard a rumor KK made a rack of Tiger chips for every puppy he's kicked in his life, since, ya know, he's apparently the devil (for not releasing counts).

Mine has been in play twice: once at a meetup where we played very small and high denoms never saw the felt, and the other at a small mixed game I hosted with a few people who could actually handle the non-standard colors. Putting $25s-$5,000s in my mid/high stakes game wouldn’t work.

damn your players with an 8 figure retirement account not being able to read numbers on a chip!

Taking Tigers and their creative team out of the discussion for a moment, I have to say that, as a new person, this duality is really confusing. On one hand, it's part of the forum's proud, long, highly documented history that we have transparent releases with lots of data for many, if not most, of our most famous and prized sets.

Then a new person asks about some of the new NAGB's, and oldtimers get up in arms and are all like "YOU NOSY MOTHERFUCKERS!"

Like, can we pick a lane? What makes Tigers or the other new sets so special and off limits? The rules are completely hazy.

I say this as a proud Tiger owner, by the way, so not just kicking up dirt.

No, I have absolutely zero idea on any of the numbers. I can guesstimate high and low quantities made relative to each other better than anyone else for sure, but exact numbers no.

My Tiger Palace rarity chart, by desirability. Rows are not sorted.

If I'm wrong on any of these happy to hear your thoughts.

Back to the OP for a sec…

I don’t know that I would classify these as “readily available”. I think they may have been one of the lower quantities made?

Yes, it’s true that there are still 5 barrels available on the website, but finding a second or third rack for a set might prove challenging!

Yes, I am eyeing that last rack. This chip is a banger!!

I'm not sure I'd agree with that. @TheChipRoom has often released final numbers, but only after he's sold through all the chips. I can't remember seeing even that level of transparency from other vendors or nagbs or whatever.
(But I'm mostly here just to kick up dirt.)

Maybe this is the invisible rule I was missing. "If a forum member hasn't completed all sales of chips, it's really rude to ask for chip counts for the sale that isn't completed."

Is that accurate? If so, mystery solved. (And maybe experienced folks can just tell new people that rather than all the weird moralizing and dancing around the topic).

There are no rules. These are people’s businesses. They just choose to do whatever they want with them and owe nothing to the forum at the end of the day.

He hasn’t in a long time

I don't think anyone is saying they owe anyone anything. People really get mad about things no one is saying. I think people are just interested in the behind the scenes stuff. Like I honestly have no context on the numbers of Tiger Palace chips. I assume its more than Faro Dunes or Empress Star, but maybe less than Aurora Star? How rare are the VIP sets compared to the primary and secondary sets? Were more primaries printed than secondaries? Not saying anyone is entitled to this info, but its just really interesting.

Also to those that do release the count, that's really cool of them and makes the collecting aspect more interesting.

@suchj0sh isn’t mad but the answer to your question is “no” so you can vent all you want but sellers are not going to release counts. You can give examples a few times it was done and mostly by small NAGB personal sets but it’s not common occurrence.

Why do you think I'm venting? Is genuine curiosity perceived as aggressive?

FWIW, I don’t think it’s rude to ask. When somebody posts an obscure looking rack for sale, it’s very common to ask if there are others out there.
I remember years back, somebody bought out a small casinos worth of chips. I think it had a Mexican sounding name? Mint RHCs. I dunno, maybe 20-40 racks of each denom. But he didn’t get them all at once? This was during dry times, so people were fighting to buy them anyway. But then it turned out that the $1s were all stolen. So people were kinda screwed because they couldn’t finish their sets. And some people suspected that maybe those $1 racks never even existed.
Just a long way of saying that even though nobody owes anybody anything, I think it’s fair to ask.

As has been pointed out, this has not been the norm IMO until maybe years and years after a new release, and then only if the seller wanted to disclose.

If it was me, I wouldn't disclose. There are already enough folks ready to burn down a NAGB seller REGARDLESS of what they do, as we all saw with certain folks involving the Tigers despite it being at the time one of the most transparent and public NAGB sales to have ever been pulled off.

If the information is divulged, it is interesting to see and know. But, the sellers already know people are interested, have been asked repeatedly for it and if they don't want to disclose, then it doesn't bother me and, again, is none of my business to begin with.

I either buy or I don't based upon my own assessment of the chip, its value to me, and whether it is worth it to me. Anything else is irrelevant. But I buy chips to play with, not as an "investment", so maybe I don't look at it the same way those who are so hyper focused on value do. Everyone approaches the hobby differently and that's ok.

Ken seems extremely astute and has been around here a long time, I'm sure if he ever wants to lift the curtain, he will. Until then, I am content with the chip awesomeness he brought to us all.
