So many jumps of logic here.

1) It’s not “art.” It’s just something to be sold to people with more money than sense (typically, people who feel their McMansion needs a game room to feel aristocratic, but don’t actually play pool or poker).

Or to sell to friends of couples who registered for their wedding at Tiffany’s.

Anyway,, analogizing commercial products like this to Van Gogh’s process (studio art major here) is silly.

2) No one to my knowledge “hired” Tiffany to make this set. Tiffany chose to make this product to sell to the people described in (1), above.
My absolute favorite thing about this piece of art is how much it triggers certain people. I am adding this to my list of pros.

There were probably artists involved in the design and production of this. Does that make it art? I can see people using this, but not like we do. Placing each chip slowly and stacking the pot gently in a much slower and casual game.
When you play chess with nice pieces as an adult do you slam each piece down or knock opponents captured pieces off the board like you did in fourth grade with the schools plastic chess set?

It’s Fashun

Then why are you now selling it? You seem like the ideal owner…
Great question! I am going to move my collection more towards actual casino chips if I can work out a trade. If I sell it outright, I have an eye on a new camera lens. Of course, I don't think anyone loves this set as much as I do, so I am perfectly happy to keep it.

@GamblingGardener , as the recently crowned “Post Police” I’m going to point out that we usually don’t bash people’s sales in the classifieds, and I’ll go ahead and apologize for all of us.
It's really no problem, but thank you. This thread is a fantastic example of why I enjoy this set so much. Love it or hate it, everyone has an opinion that they want to share. Honestly all the fun buzz makes me want to hang onto it.

@GamblingGardner I wanted to buy this, but I couldn't handle being labeled a 'rich douchebag' hahahahaha

I would assume that Tiffany’s is not targeting the poker player directly, but the wife, friend, etc., of a poker player. To the non poker player, this seems just like the right gift to impress their poker playing friend. Perhaps some of us have ended up with a non-functional set of chips from a non-poker playing friend.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with this chip set, it for sure has a target market and they’re nice in their own way but this story for why you’re selling them could use some work.

using the money for medical bills …
you have a rare allergy to porcelain …
your wife can’t get aroused by a man who owns Tiffany merch …

a lot of credible options!

Of course there is an “art” to good packaging. (I used to write about topics like that for design magazines, in my misspent youth. I even once was on the Tiffany & Co. press list, lord help me.) That doesn’t make good packaging art. And in any case, this is just cookie-cutter Tiffany design in its standard color and materials. Someone in house could have designed this in his/her sleep.

I can see people using this, but not like we do. Placing each chip slowly and stacking the pot gently in a much slower and casual game.

If it could be proven, I would wager that no one has hosted even a single game of poker with one of these Tiffany sets. Ever.

My eccentric grandfather collected salt-and-pepper shakers the way many people here collect choice poker chips (including some with pornographic themes.) Friends and relative were always trying to give him “S&Ps” as birthday presents. His face was classic when opening these gifts, trying but failing to be polite. They pretty much never made it into the official collection.
