This is just a thought exercise and for my own curiosity.

The desire amongst Chipoholics for crispy Paulsons does not seem like it will ever abate. Hey, I'm right there with you. We've all seen the amounts that NAGB, leaded old school, and even RHC can command, and all of this for definitively not custom chips. Now I know being and old dude that I've harped on and on about "back in the day we could get semi custom Paulsons just by walking into a 7-11 and they cost .25/chip, etc. etc." but I wonder would anybody here pay, say, $3.83/chip if you could get semi custom Paulsons like in the olden days. That is you could get your own inlay or hot stamp put on a chip from a restricted selection of spotted patterns that were previously available for the home market? THC mold but not leaded, obviously.

BTW I came up with the $3.83 amount being the most expensive mold/Level 5 spot that CPC offers which would seem to be the most direct competition. Not apples to apples but it approximates the most complex pattern from the older Paulson offerings. I have no earthly idea what Paulsons actually cost.

Say this offerings were restricted to the following. This is not all of the old school patterns but there's at least 3 of each color. A couple of the patterns may actually be proprietary to an offering from a vendor from years ago, but that's not that important to this experiment.

Honestly I don’t think I would. I just couldn’t bring myself to pay any significant amount for these modern smooth inlays. (But it is a lesson I have to relearn every year or so.)
Now, give me textured shaped inlays and I’m all aboard! I’m not even asking for lead because I understand that’s not happening. But as long as we’re what iffing, why not what if something that could actually happen. We all assume the textured shaped inlays disappeared because they’re not compatible with modern security measures. But the home market doesn’t need that. So give me shaped texture and take my money!!!!!!!

That's an interesting point. Can/would GPI even do textured inlays anymore? Don't know. I strongly, strongly prefer textured but it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me. $6/chip might.

Not sure I’d do it. Bring BCC and their best molds back from the dead and they can definitely have my money though
Would you do it if restricted to a set selection of specific chips? At the mentioned price point?

FWIW the stamped edge spotted chips cost $.65/ea in 1998-2000. This was a from a third party but as I recall the price was about the same directly from Paulson, at least Paulson Atlantic City. So that's about $1.16 in today's money. Note that the choice of stamps was restricted too (no denoms on both sides, choice of up to three letter monogram on the reverse). I have no idea what it cost for the inlaid version of these, though I know many were made, both personal and business sets (I've seen Sierra Nevada and Sturm Ruger versions).

I missed a bunch, but the point was to have a restricted selection
And I guess the more restricted they’d be, the less interested I’d be? It’s probably a minority opinion, but the more I’ve seen the same old fantasy spot/colors over the years, the less interesting they’ve become.
I remember the first time I saw a CDM metallic gold with the 312 blues, I thought it was the coolest chip ever. But now its not so thrilling to me, because it seems as common as JACK chips.

I get that, but some of the particular chips/patterns really hit me as classic and are amongst my favorite ever. The Blurple 414 Dolphin, both of the Red 3TA14s, etc. It's all subjective after all. Some of the NAGBs and Casino chips I've seen I can't figure out the attraction other than unusual/rarer colors/patterns.

My thoughts, in order of scrolling through the posts:
- Love the effort @MeridianFC put in to recreate the graphics with Paulson home & spot patterns!
- I wouldn't pay $3.83 a chip for a custom Paulson set limited to these spot patterns.
- Love the effort @kmccormick100 put in to fill in some of the other spot patterns!
- Wait... per @kmccormick100's post... saying 43mm might be a possibility in this thought exercise
- OK, now I might pay for a 43mm set.
- Why do you guys put these thought exercises in my head :)

From what little my newbie self knows, it would be a great price. I'd do it if I could get a couple of 43mm choices as well.

That $1.16 price is also about the same price they wanted for hot-stamped spotted THC chips five years ago (just the base hot-stamped chip price, plus lots of 'extra' charges -- like artwork charges, die fabrication charges, stamping charges, set-up fees, crating charges, shipping charges, etc.).

What? A base price for hot-stamped chips, then an extra charge for having to actually stamp them? What next, an employee air consumption charge?

CPC does the same.

The separate crating charge is the one that raised my eyebrows.
