Hey Guys. Lurked around for years and finally made the move to become a member. Amazing wealth of knowledge on the forums with a great group of people.

I cannot believe the cost of Paulson’s now vs when I started playing and buying quality chip sets. Great alternatives to high end sets available now too. Anyways looking forward to learning and contributing.

Cheers

quantify "alot"
My first set was a set of Paulson THC. It was a 500 piece set and it cost just over $800CDN. This was circa 2008-2009 if memory serves me correct. I sold them for close to what I paid and moved on to a set of “Jack Nieman” Bud Jones. When my game dissolved I sold those. Now I have a set of China clays which don’t compare at all to either. I’ve ordered some card molds also and expect them in February. Understanding these won’t compare to either set also.

So when I say a lot. I MEAN ALOT…….

Hahaha

Cards Mold are quite the enigma around here, which I’m sure you’ve seen. I have sets of clay, plastic, and ceramic. Some of my stuff is “higher” end, but I still love getting the Cards Mold on the felt. For the money, you can’t beat them.

Honestly I’m really glad to hear that as I keep second guessing my decision.

Cheers!

Welcome! Lots of Canadians on the site. Lots of different chips to look at and buy.

I imagine its hard to move down when you started with THC. Which set?

The good news is unless you are way overpaying because you are in a hurry, you're just renting the chips, and get back at least the money you have into them when you rent them to the next person.

At the time when I was ordering I wanted the Pharaoh’s but they weren’t available and being impatient I ordered what I believe were called the “classic top hat and cane”. They were the below design:

Ah, nice chips. Just to clarify these are Paulson mold chips. THC chips only have rhe hat and canes with an outer and inner ring.

Definitely get samples before you buy a set. Cards mold are liked by a lot of people, but they are not for everyone (myself I prefer to pay the extra $$ for the real thing).

Where in Canada are you?

Thanks. Still learning so I appreciate the above. At the time there wasn’t as much info out there. All we knew was that we wanted the same chips we played with in the casino haha. I wish I never sold them or the bud jones chips I had.

I’m about 45 mins north of Toronto

I am in Georgina, where are you 45mins north fellow Canuck. Do you have a game going now?
Cards mold chips are Awesome, I have a whole custom set for tourney and or cash. For the $ and being custom they are unbeatable right now.

Translation for America's as Canadians quote distance in time at 10kms faster than the speed limit.....

Good day sir! I’m located in Orangeville.

I think Georgina is towards Barrie is memory serves me correct. We do have a get however we play every 3 months or so. Would love to play more often but my guys come from all over and have families that keep them too busy and off the felt haha myself included. Before wives and kids we had a weekly Wednesday game.

Glad to hear about the car molds again from another member. Do you have any pics of yours? My biggest worry always stacking since some of our guys like to pile them high haha

Yep, quality poker chips are expensive these days. Just take your time, do a little research on the available options. Good luck!

I appreciate the invite but Ottawa is about a 6 hour drive for me in Orangeville.

Trying to figure out if you guys are 60 miles or 600 miles apart. Do you guys use metric time or are you still using the old units?

Where are you in Canada? If you're in Ottawa come to my tourney tomorrow.

Georgina here, 4.5hrs to Ottawa, approx 1 hr to orangville.
For use reference an hour equals roughly 100kms which is approx 65 miles.

We use the metric system in Canada but often use feet and inches for construction measurements etc.

What is card molds?

What is card molds?

Chinese made chips ordered through an Alibaba manufacturer/seller that produces fully custom ceramics at a very reasonable price. The "card mold" is the rimmed impression on the blanks of the chips. The designs possibilities are endless, I went with a secondary version of my CPC's using the high level edge spots I couldnt afford to field in a full COC set sticking with lvl 1 through most of my CPC set. Simple old fashioned and personally drawn by me with my basic skills. A simple cards mold search will give you tons of "pron" illustrating your options.
