The Concert Thread (3 Viewers)

Was digging through an old box and found some concert tickets from my college days.
The tickets are for the following shows:
38 Special with Bon Jovi as opening act, 1986
Frank Zappa (front row), 1988
Pink Floyd, Carrier Dome, 1987
Deep Purple, with Joan Jett as opening act (She was booed off the stage. I mean seriously...who books Joan Jett to warm up a Deep Purple crowd?), 1987
Rush, Radio City Music Hall NYC, 1983
Iron Maiden, 1987 (saw them twice in 3 days)
Foreigner in Lou Gramm's hometown, Rochester NY, 1985
Aerosmith with Ted Nugent opening act, 1986

One show of note that I don’t have the ticket for was Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble in a small lecture hall, before Couldn’t Stand The Weather was released. I remember wondering why I was hearing two guitarists but there was only one on stage. Remarkable evening.

Tickets purchased. Very excited for this one

Never heard of any of them . It’s Rough getting old . Been to close to a thousand concerts though
What's old? I'll be 58 by the time of this and probably in the older range of attendees for this. That's a lot of concerts. No idea what mine is but north of 300 at the minimum.

Yeah, I’m 38. That lineup spans a decent range of time for alternative/(capital E) Emo from the 90’s-00’s.

I’d love to see Mineral. I’m always super nervous about seeing bands like them that I really revere now that they are older, though.

Yeah. I was in high school in the first half of the 80's and grew up on late 70's punk and 80's hardcore and went from there.

I've been loving the 10, 15, 20+ year anniversary shows. Nothing has disappointed so far. Some of them have been SDRE, Get Up Kids, Armor for Sleep, Quicksand, Hot Rod Circuit and a bunch more. Coming up in the next month or so are Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Samiam, Bob Mould, Swervedriver, and Bloc Party.

I was going to get tickets, as they are my favorite band, but couldn't find anyone to go with me. Hope the shows rock

I have seen them about 20 times and they never have disappointed me.They have always delivered.

I saw Metallica back in 1986 when they opened for Ozzy. Boy, was that an eye-opener....it was literally a passing of the metal torch.
As soon as Metallica left the stage, it looked like half the crowd made for the exits. Never seen that from an opeing act before or since.
Sadly, it was one of Cliff Burton's last shows.

I'm from Long Island originally a friend of mine attended that show.He told me all about this new Metallica band and got me into them. They were way better then Ozzy.
My first show was in 1989 at the Nassau Coliseum with Queensryche as the opener.
It was the And Justice For All Tour.

with Queensryche as the opener.

 assume they played silent lucidity - that song was mind-blowing to 14-year-old me, and the first song i ever figured out on my own on guitar. transformative years.

The show I saw was up in Rochester, NY in April of '86, just after Master of Puppets was released. The buddy that was with me was a HUGE Metallica fan, but to be honest, I wasn't into them much (yet!). I look back at photos from around that time and realized that both they and myself were almost the same age... just kids. Amazing that Cliff Burton was only 24 when he died.

I'm the same age as them so as long as they continue I stay young and energetic. HAHA

Saw The Jayhawks last night at Codfish Hollow near Maquoketa, IA, not far from where I grew up. Really cool, relaxed venue on a farm property out in the boondocks.

You park in a field about 3/4 mile away, and they have an old bus to shuttle you to the property if you don’t want to make the walk.

The band plays in a smallish barn, and if you don’t mind being packed in, you can watch them play inside, or you can sit on the hillside and listen.

They have food trucks, and relatively inexpensive drinks. Fun atmosphere!

Just saw St. Paul and the Broken Bones recently. They are an amazing group and put on one hell of a show if you ever get the chance to see them! This is my third time getting to see them live. They are a very soulful group with a mix of new and old school sound. Here are some pics.

We also got to see The Wood Brothers open up for them. They were great as well! They had a nice bluesy, jam sound to them!

I've never been a fan of country music. being an old folkie and 60s rock kind of guy,. Though there have been a few Texas types I've liked over the decades, from Guy Clark to James McMurtry. But the guy who has for the past few years impressed my wife and myself hugely is Chris Stapleton.

So I was thinking that I'd like to see him live, while we both are. Looked his Web page up and checked his current touring schedule, and yo! There are a couple of stops in Florida. One is in October at the Hard Rock Live, in Hollywood, FL. Perfect! Could be my birthday celebration.

Then I looked at ticket prices. The cheapest seats are $380 apiece, ranging from there up to ***** $11,400 *****. Holy shit -- what on Earth do you get for 11 grand each?

Living near New York and Washington DC for most of my life, music has been a huge part of everything, on a weekly basis -- but I guess my concert-going days are over... o_O

Chris Stapleton is an amazing guitarist and very soulful singer. He puts on an amazing show! I have been fortunate to see him live twice. Tickets for almost every artist are crazy right now. I definitely see less concerts than I used to with all the high ticket prices out there. I was able to grab 4 front row, center, for the previous pics I posted of St. Paul and the Broken Bones for $90 a ticket. I thought that was an unbelievable deal compared to other shows I have been to in the past couple years.

If you can find some tickets to see Stapleton for a decent price, you should definitely go!

This was from the first time I saw them years ago.
