Hi, first post here!

I buy Ying Yang 8-stripe poker chips in bulk to make into tokens for tabletop game I play. I’ve been making and selling them now for about two years. Thing is the quality of the chips has really gotten bad. When I first started ordering they were all clean and pretty much perfect. Now a good amount have colors that run through the white leaving nasty looking marks I can’t remove. When I remove the stickers sometimes there’s hardly any plastic and I can see the metal base. Is this common for this kind of chip? It’s like this for all the green, black, and red, but never for the blue, yellow, or pink. I’m currently paying $96 for 1,200 and no shipping which when I subtract for unusable chips they are costing me around 10-12 cents a chip.

Should I just stick to getting this deal? Should I talk to the distributor about it? I can seem to find any deal anywhere near as good. Thanks for your time.

Hi
I say general issue with ‚no brand‘ chips. There are no quality standards for such chips and you might end up with the knock-off of a copy of an imitation... Your source might have run out of original badge and his re-supply can be from a different vendor or the guy is also only a middleman etc.

But yeah, if you have any buying leverage you should firmly ask your supplier to improve his quality control. Or reduce the price so that even with your quality losses you are in the price range you can make a profit with.

If he’s not reasonable, threaten to send this guy over

Hi! Thanks for replying! Here are just two examples. See that black smudge in the pic with the sticker (that’s not even placed the right way) I get a lot like this now and some worse where the smudge looks all veiny and other ways as well. The other pic shows how the back underneath isn’t even all white like higher quality chips are.

Ah yes. The Flan of cards.. an old classic

Why is it that chips without sticker inlays cost MORE than ones that do?

I think I finally found another place to try. For me a big issue is that most places kill me in shipping making it not worth going anywhere else.

Printing (for cheap chips) is typically less expensive -- both materials and labor -- than additional label printing and subsequent application. But some manufacturers think it's a classier look with better durability, and warrants a higher selling price.
