Before i go buying more chips unnecessarily, can someone help me with my chip counts?

Want to run max of 40 buyins, including rebuys, using 25-100-500-1k. Need to stay close to 1,100 chips if possible, excluding the 1ks.

Planning on T7000 starting stacks:

8 x $25
13 x $100
7 x $500
2 x $1k

Total chips:
320 x $25
520 x $100
280 x $500
80 x $1k
20 x $5k (used for late color up)

Blinds:

30 minute levels
25/50
50/100
100/200
Rebuy cutoff
200/400
400/800
600/1200
800/1600
1000/2000
2000/4000
3000/6000

Thoughts?

I hate only 8xT25. way too much change making. Also, that blind structure is Vegas terrible.

I could make a suggestion, but I'm going to defer to the master of blinds and breakdowns: @BGinGA

Thanks for the reply! My group isnt big on frequent level intervals. Prefer to increase every 30 min if possible.

How many players, and how long do you want it to last?

Planning on T7000 starting stacks

Total chips:
320 x $25
520 x $100
280 x $500
80 x $1k
20 x $5k

Avg 20 players.

4-5 hours.
Two ways to do this:

a) efficiently constructed starting stacks using higher denomination chips for re-buys, or
b) maximizing your current set quantities for the maximum number of players and re-buys

Below is how to best utilize your current set, with minimal additional chip purchases.

20 x T7000 starting stacks:

16 x T25
16 x T100
10 x T500
------------
42 chips = T7000

13 x T7000 re-buy stacks:

15 x T100
7 x T500
2 x T1000
------------
24 chips = T7000

Combined with color-up chips, that requires a base set of:

320 x T25
515 x T100
303 x T500 (includes 12x to color-up T25 chips)
80 x T1000 (includes 54x to color-up T25/T100 chips)
32 x T5000 (22x required to color-up T500 starting chips plus 10x needed to color-up T500 re-buy chips)
--------------
1250 total chips -- 1138 total chips, excluding T1000/T5000 denominations

Your current set contains ample T25, T100 (five extras), and T1000 chips. You will need to purchase the following:

23 x T500
12 x T5000 (only two needed if 20 players with no re-buys)
--------------
35 chips needed

A 20-player field will typically generate between 5-7 re-buys if using a properly constructed blind structure (so planning for 13 is plenty, and this approach also allows for up to 33 starting players).

If your group is experiencing higher re-buy rates, then either the buy-in amount is set too low, the starting stack sizes are too small relative to the starting blinds, the blind structure is improperly designed, or you are playing with maniacs who have no concern for money...... or some combination of the four.

Blind structure:
T7000 stacks (140BB)
15-minute blind levels

lvl sb bb
L1 25 50
L2 25 75
L3 50 100
L4 75 150
L5 100 200
L6 150 300
remove T25 chips, end re-buys
L7 200 400
L8 300 600
L9 400 800
L10 600 1200
L11 800 1600
L12 1200 2400
remove T100 chips
L13 1500 3000
L14 2000 4000
L15 2500 5000
remove T500 chips
L16 3000 6000
L17 4000 8000
L18 5000 10000 ***
L19 6000 12000
L20 8000 16000
L21 10000 20000

With 25 players (or 20 players and 5 re-buys), the event typically will end no later than L18 (4-1/2 hours plus breaks).

You need to educate your players. Gradually increasing the blinds combined with shorter blind levels creates a much better poker environment than doubling the blinds, even with longer levels. Doubling the blinds creates instant short-stacked situations, which generates more all-in moves by desperate players at nearly every level (this may partially explain your larger-than-typical re-buy rate). Gradual increases over the same overall time period encourages skillful poker play and proper stack management, and provides increased strategy opportunities.

Most blind increases in the structure above are 33% or 50%, averaging 37% overall -- compared to five 100% jumps and an average increase of 73% in the structure you posted.

Thanks so much! This looks great!

I'll work on the "re-education" and let you know how it goes :)

BG is correct in all things. It's like going into a Country Club, and having Tiger Woods lean over and offer advice on your swing. You'd be foolish not to listen.

I've only been here a few months, and I think I figured that out the first day :)

Thanks!
