Hi guys.

Just joined up. Very nice forum you have here.

I'm just about to invest in some Ascona chips, as my last set of chips went missing years ago when I used to play, however, I need some help on which denominations I need.

Typically play 8 person T5000 tournament, 15m blinds starting at 25/50 and roughly doubling at each level.

I'm not sure on what denominations to order. Any advice?

Thanks in advance.
Adam

Welcome, I would recommend 25, 100, 500, and 1000 for your denominations. Also try to avoid doubling the blinds when possible. I'm sure someone here can point you to a proper link about blind scheduling. Good luck on your future games.

Hi, thanks for the reply. The blinds I've set (double to big) are

SB: 25, 50, 75, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700 etc.

I was thinking for t5000 8/8/2/3 with the following for my set. L

100*25
150*100
50*500
50*1000
20*5000

Does this sounds about right?

I would personally do starting stacks of:

12x25=300
12x100=1200
7x500=3500

hate when players are constantly asking for change etc.

1000's and 5,000 used as color ups.

for a 10 player tournament:

120x25
160x100
120x500
30x1000
10x5000

ALthough i'd rather do T10,000 tournament when starting with 25/50 blind levels, unless you want to keep it around 3 hours with 15 min blinds. I think players can play a better game when tournaments last about 5 hours. Short tournaments result in a shove fest, even for good players.

Jeff

Thanks Jeff. I'm happy to up it to t10000 as this is a new group of players (we've all played just not together), so whatever works really.

I have 8 confirmed for Friday, for a T10000 what would you recommend for each stack and also in terms of ordering chips as I still need to buy some.

Thanks

With the blinds always doubling, the "tournament" is quickly going to be a Slot-machine poker all-in luckfest, pretty much regardless of the starting stack..
Within 60-90 mins or so a starting stack will be worth less than 10 BB's ...
I would highly recommend you consider having a real tournament for your guests, with sane blind levels ...
An online structure caculator, such as blindvalet.fr , can help with a better structure within the time you want..

For a 10-player tourney set that can handle up to T10K stacks, I recommend the following:

T5000 starting stacks:
12 x T25
12 x T100
5 x T500
1 x T1000
------------
30 chips = T5000

T10000 starting stacks:
12 x T25
12 x T100
5 x T500
6 x T1000
------------
35 chips = T10000

minimum chip set:
120 x T25
120 x T100
50 x T500
75 x T1000 (includes 15 chips to color-up T25 and T100 chips)
------------
365 chips

If desired, add 20 x T5000 chips to cover up to ten re-buys. Ordering three spares of each denomination is a good idea to cover future loss/damage, resulting in this 400-chip set:

123 x T25
123 x T100
53 x T500
78 x T1000
23 x T5000
------------
400 chips total

If you have a bigger budget, you can round up and get 460 chips:

140 x T25
140 x T100
60 x T500
80 x T1000
40 x T5000
------------
460 chips total

For the blinds, I highly recommend this 200BB structure:

rd sb bb
L1 25 50
L2 25 75
L3 50 100
L4 75 150
L5 100 200
L6 150 300
remove T25 chips
L7 200 400
L8 300 600
L9 400 800
L10 600 1200
L11 800 1600
remove T100 chips
L12 1000 2000
L13 1500 3000
L14 2000 4000
L15 3000 6000 ***
L16 4000 8000
L17 5000 10000

The average blind increase is 41%, ranging from 25%-50%, with zero jumps of 100%.

With 10 players and 15-minute levels, the event will typically end no later than L15 (4 hours including breaks). It runs about 5 hours plus breaks when using 20-minute levels.

Events with 8 players or T5000 stacks will last about 1/2 hour less, in either case.

Excellent, thank you for your help. Hope all goes well on Friday now :D

How long do you think this would take with 30 players using 15min blinds?

for 5k i like

8 X 25
8 X 100
4 X 500
2 X 1000

or

8 X 25
8 X 100
2 X 500
3 X 1000

When i go up to 10K i just add a 5k chip

200BB, 15-minute levels
10 players: L15, ~4.0 hours
20 players: L17, ~4.5 hours
30 players: L18, ~5.0 hours

Times shown are estimated totals for the event(s), and include 10-minute color-up breaks.

For longer tournaments, the following blind levels should be added to the structure:

L18 7500 15000
removeT500 chips
L19 10000 20000
L20 15000 30000
L21 20000 40000
