Maybe its because I have cigars on the brain....but how much does temperature / humidity affect (paulson) chips? I'm not talking wild swings here....not leaving them in the rainforest, nor am I leaving them at the north pole. Just talking about keeping them in my basement vs office.

Thanks!

I've kept mine in the basement; but it's finished and has heating/cooling. Normal temperature and humidity swings during the season are like 63 - 68 degrees and about 35% to 50%.

I would expect harsher conditions to affect the chips, but nothing around this range would be bad. Alo, sunlight... Keep them out of the sun. I did a test over the summer and a chip left in sunlight on my desk faded!

It would be interesting to see if oiling it after would do anything to restore it.

It's possible that it would (my other ones are oiled as was this one originally). It's a PCA frac. But even if it does help it, I think people want to avoid the need to re-oil them.

In a Pelican-type case, I guess you could keep them in unheated / un-airconditioned rooms.
Otherwise, the more civililsed the environment, the better, obviously.

UV radiation/rays will cause chips (and lots of other items) to fade over time. The usual victims include furniture, artwork, chips, carpets, area rugs, etc. In order to preserve the colors of your chips, it's a good idea to use display cases that have glass/acrylic that blocks UV rays.

Sfdisplay.com sells display cases with UV protection. (This is not a paid advertisement.)

I think home office, right? I wouldn't keep my babies at an actual office! :)

But then how would you get any work done? You'd be looking at them all day and thinking of how to acquire more, or what custom set to make next, or check PCF to see what's in the Classifieds, and before you know it your day is shot.

For many here, the above is their only motivation to work:D
