Because it works. Something in the material's structure requires a slight bend so they flatten out when they cool.I don’t get why the plates need to be bent. Aren’t the clamps intended to bring everything to square?
I got a deck of KEM cards yesterday for experimenting. I think @Old State post makes a lot of sense. It doesn't work with KEM because the card composition is more hygroscopic, and experiments with water simply can't work.I doubt it has any real impact. I think it’s more about the heat resetting the memory of the acetate. I also think that the acetate is different from manufacture to manufacture. Kem definitely seems to be impacted by moisture the most and this will not work on them…I tried.
I also have to assume Kem keeps its formula the same for a reason…and I bet that reason is that Kem cards are very resilient to marking or creasing. Probably why they still overwhelmingly dominate the casino industry
