I know this horse has been beaten to death, but there’s so much information about tournament starting stacks that it’s a bit hard to keep track of. If anyone had some advice for my specific situation, or could point me to other threads, it would be much appreciated.

I know 100BB is the recommended stack, and I’ve seen recommendations of something like T10,000 with a 12/12/8/7 stack or similar.

I’m looking to buy a set of Showdown chips (or Majestics, potentially) and need to know how many of which denominations to get.

Typically I will be using them in smaller, casual, perhaps 4-6 people games, not too long - about 1 to 3 hours. The people I’m playing with are not serious poker players, and neither am I. Just looking to have some fun.

Larger games (sometimes) would be about 10-14 players and again we would play tournament style. For this kind of game I’m thinking also 2-3 hours at most. There would be no re-buys, because looking to keep the games mostly short. I don’t care too much about chip ups.

So I would like to find a structure that facilitates short, quick, fun games, but at the same time keeps it fair. And also, flexible for smaller games and larger games. Am I asking for the impossible? Again, thanks for any help you guys can provide.

12/12/8/7 is not T10000. Common breakdowns for T10K stacks are 12/12/5/6, 12/12/7/5, 8/8/4/7, and 8/8/6/6 (T25/T100/T500/T1000).

I would consider 100BB starting stacks as the minimum size to ensure a non-shovefest type event. Starting stacks of 150, 200, 250, or 300 BB all play deeper and help minimize luck.

Regarding set size, you can configure your set to use larger 12/12/5/6 stacks when the field is small, and use smaller 8/8/4/7 stacks when you have more players.

I have an aggressive blind structure (59% avg increases) that can finish within your suggested time frames and still allow for some meaningful play. I'll post it later today (if somebody doesn't link to it by then), along with a recommended set breakdown.

Hello !
I was reading few posts about starting stacks and found this one.
@BGinGA, you talked about a link in your post. Is there a post with some recommended starting stacks and structures dependings on time of the tournament ?
Sorry for updating an old post
