Since it seems acquiring quantities of actual Paulson racks isn't terribly feasible at the moment or for the forseeable future, what's a good source of racks that fit Paulsons well? PGI racks? Racks from Key West? Just get the cheap ones and deal with the floppiness?

new Chipco racks by PGI, by far. PGI-branded casino racks fit nice but rock (not a good thing, ie rock=unstable). But their new Chipco racks are stellar, and relatively inexpensive.

I'd go with generic 66.7mm racks as second-best, since you can't get Paulson or old flexible Chipco racks any longer. Only rack I haven't tried is what GameOn sells, I assume it's a 66.7mm rack but don't know that for sure.

Which can get you banned or charged with theft/larceny, if caught. Really worth two bucks? And don't forget all of those cameras....

BG - If I am interpreting your comment right, it sounds like there are other racks that PGI has available besides the ones found at this link:

If that's correct, how do I go about ordering them...just use email? Or did I misunderstand you, and the racks found at the link are the ones you are recommending?

I just ordered a bunch of the Chipco racks from Joe @ PGI and they're great. They're incredibly sturdy and my chips fit in them perfectly.

Correct, PGI sells at least three different stacking acrylic chip trays (racks) with no lid:

generic rack (no idea what size)
PGI-branded 66.7mm rack (your link, pictured below)
new Chipco-branded 66.7mm rack (fits Paulson chips perfectly)

PGI has also offered other racks from time to time -- slightly-oversize PGI-branded racks, larger generic racks (71mm?) for their 8V china clays, etc. -- but I have no idea what they currently have in stock (they probably don't, either).

Best bet is to order (not ask) specifically what you want via email to sales@palmimports.com - state what you want, your name/email/shipping address, and your PCF/CT username. They will send you an email invoice if they have it in stock.

Thanks everyone. Email sent/order placed. Hopefully they're in stock and awesome! Worse case scenario is they're out of stock, or I get some racks that are no worse than what I already have.

Moose, if you're able to steal from a casino that easily, one might consider relieving them of the money rather than the racks. I think it's best if I stick to more conventional outlets for my racks, but congrats on the haul.

So the "Chipco-branded 66.7mm" from PGI don't rock?

I have the PGI 66.7 (not Chipco) branded trays and I use them for my PCA's. Fit great.

Correct. The PGI-branded racks have the raised-letter brand on the center barrel, and stacking them can cause racks to 'rock' from end-to-end (because the brand rests on the center barrel chips of the rack below). The Chipco-branded racks have the raised letter brand on the barrel #2 (or #4, depending on viewpoint). Because it's not centered, the stacked racks don't rock. I also think the Chipco raised letters aren't as high as the PGI letters.

Both racks fit mint Paulson chips (and standard-thickness ceramic chips) perfectly.

Great question psypher. I need to pick up some of these as well

How much did it cost you per rack?

I'd like to know how much wiggle room you have as well. I ordered 66.7mm racks from Straight Poker Supplies in the past and I could fit 21 non-mint Paulsons in them.

Edit: Apparently they're 68mm, but advertised as fitting Paulson chips perfectly.

I received the racks today. How tightly are Paulsons supposed to fit in the barrel?

Brand new minty Paulsons should fit with nearly zero movement. Warped Paulsons will be a very tight fit, and may even require compression to squeeze in.

Worn Paulson chips will be a loose fit -- the more worn the chips, the more wiggle room in the barrel. Very worn Paulson chips may even fit 21 in a row (or require a spacer).

Chipco tray cost is $2.25 per, plus shipping.

I compared four types of stacks - completely minty BCC MGK's, Stardust cash, very lightly used Casino de Ithmus, Milanos, and casino-used Par-a-dice. The Par-A-Dice fit snugly 21/barrell. Milanos fit 19-20/barrel (hooray CC quality control!) as expected. Stardust and Casino de Ithmus 20-stacks fit basically the same...definitely *some* wiggle, and maybe even enough room for a spacer, but certainly tighter than the no-name racks. The BCC's fit the best overall, but still had some slight wiggle.

I was expecting a much more snug fit on the Paulson's for some reason, and to that end I was disappointed, because snug they are not. Better than the off-brands, mind you, but once you include shipping costs (which were somewhat significant for me), I'd sooner go with the cheaper racks if basing on barrel fit alone. I had little more ease stacking the racks in a 600-carrier than I did the no-name racks. That being said, the quality of construction on these racks alone is worth the price of admission. Almost twice the acrylic thickness throughout the mold vs. the no name racks. They can definitely take more punishment than the cheapo stuff, and that extra sturdiness/longevity makes them easily worth the price paid.

In short, if you just need racks to carry chips in from table to table, cheap ones will probably be fine. If you need racks to stack in 600 carriers, the Chipco ones aren't much better than the cheap ones depending on how worn your chips are. If you tend to be harder on your racks, though, or your discerning tastes appreciate a tighter fit, however slight, then these are definitely the racks for you.

Just found this thread after posting my recent rack thread. Hopefully Palm will ship to Aussie at an OK price! :)

Thanks to those who shared this information.

Haven't seen any for sale recently, but typically $4 to $5 per rack, even used. Insane imo, I've never understood it given the decent alternatives....

Yeah I'm with Moose on the early responses from months ago.

Meh, theoretically so can taking racks of chips out the door and no one here has an issue with that. And just like chips they come home with me for my own personal use.

I carry a backpack. Put my name on the list, go to the cage to get my buyin, place the rack of chips in my backpack. When my name is called I take my seat, pull the chips out and leave the rack inside. For the first year+ they were open my local Total Rewards casino gave poker players .25 per hour in comps... I try not to lose any sleep over the racks.

There is a big difference between exchanging cash for checks and walking out (supposedly to redeem them later, if at all) vs the shoplifting/theft of casino property. It's the same as stealing anything else in the casino, be it a sign, an ashtray, a card shoe, or a deck of cards. I'm not making a moral judgement, simply a legal one. Get caught walking out of the casino with chips you purchased or won, no big deal. Get caught walking out of the casino with stolen property, different story. Worth the risk? Up to you to decide.

Worth the risk?
Absolutely as there is no risk. I find the very suggestion that they may ever see me having a rack in my possession that they handed to me and watched me place in my bag to be a banishable or prosecutable offense ridiculous. Not that it matters seeing as I can't imagine anyone asking to look in my backpack when I'm leaving the casino anyways.

I can see an absolute worst-case scenario as being the person working the cage telling me I can't put the rack in my bag when I buy my chips.

EDIT - Okay I will upgrade my worst-case scenario to somehow they know I have an empty rack in my bag when leaving and tell me I can't take it out of the casino... can't see it happening but that must be astronomically more likely than having cuffs slapped on my wrists ;)

I have a dozen paulson racks that I can only assume came from foxwoods. A friends gave them to me. I have walked out with racks full of chips from many vegas casinos before and never been hassled. I just can't imagine a casino ever giving you a hassle for this, unless you are filling an empty bag with empty racks.

Okay, I guess you guys are right -- no risk, no hassle, no banishment, no prosecution.

On the other hand, if you are so certain about the above, then it shouldn't be an issue to actually inform the casino management (or even just ask) about taking racks home with you...since they won't care or otherwise hassle you. Right? Yeah, didn't think so.
