Six Weeks In -- Some Thoughts (2 Viewers)

That statement about tastes changing quickly couldn't more true. I started off HATING hot stamps. But now, they've grown on me. (Well, at least some have.) I never thought I'd be into vintage / leaded sets. But there is a beauty to the Outposts that's just mesmerizing. The Binion WSOP ones too.

Here is my current list of chips and chipcounts. I've removed some of the columns from my database like cost, PCF / outside source and average cost per denomination, but left the main source in. If PCF is listed first as a source, the majority of chips in that row came from a PCF'er. If an outside source is listed first, then the majority of that particular chip was acquired outside of the forum.

I have also listed the chips in my CURRENT order of "love". Of course, tastes will change once I've gotten these into play, hear comments from others players, and get a sense for how they feel/look on a table, in a game.

Wow, 6 weeks in and you're up 24k chips...it took me about 5 years to reach that level and then it all snowballed out of control after that. :ROFLMAO: Congrats and welcome to the hobby.

As an old skooler, I have 2 words of advice for you buddy: TR King

You're welcome. :D

Ooh, I’m reading about TR King now. Interesting.

@Windwalker , IMHO you don't owe anyone an explanation or apology, but the fact that you felt you did speaks volumes about your character.

I'm new here, but from my perspective the main activity of this forum isn't (or should't be) the buying and selling of chips, but rather the enjoyment we get as collectors from obtaining, having, and using chips - and in particular, the sharing of that enjoyment with each other. We all want you to appreciate your collection, and we all want to appreciate your collection along with you. That's why we like pictures of people's chips and like to hear stories about people's home games.

I'm reminded of a decades-old Doonesbury cartoon, where Garry Trudeau poked fun - good-naturedly - at collectors like us through his rock-star character Jimmy Thudpucker:

Besides the easy joke, I think the takeaway here is not how much time Jimmy spends building his collection, but rather the time he spends with it, flipping through his folders, looking at his stamps through a magnifying glass, cataloging what he has and what he wants, and enjoying it.

I hope you're enjoying your new-found hobby, and I hope you continue sharing that enjoyment with the rest of the community.

Don't worry Changster, you'll always be our original wrecking ball, your entrance was pretty entertaining as well.

Great post! as a new person here, probably more like someone else already said, I will garner advice, buy a couple of sets, and then troll everyone for the remainder. This post makes me think you already are going to add value to the chip collecting world in a meaningful way. I have no desire to be a collector, I just like gambling and now have the means to set myself up with a couple sets, one for tourney and one for cash, on my new table that should arrive in 6 months or so.

I also would reiterate what others have said about it being your world and your buck. If you think its a good deal then be happy with that deal. I suffer from FOMO and cause myself way to much anxiety, as to why I will never be a collector :). I would lose many nights sleep if I thought I overpaid for something or something else out there was better.

Makes me happy to see someone acquire 24k premo chips in 6 weeks well done I say!

Not sure how many agree or will see this as a fair comparison but I’ll leave it out there as good for thought. Much like taking vacations and flying to scenic destinations, diving into a hobby or collection for many provides relief from the rat race, the predictability of daily life. Some have the means to explore every avenue, every nook on this planet while others have only the ability to go to the big park a few blocks away.

We should all enjoy doing this in our own way without pointing fingers or passing judgement. Take a closer look around you or around the world for that matter. We’re fortunate enough to be able to go after 0.02 dice chips never mind $20 Paulson chips. Ya sure, each of us may not have the crème de la crème of poker chips but we still have them. Enjoy them. There’ll come a day where you won’t be able to.

Hahaha. The sign was in the pro shop of a local golf course. Best I could do on short notice.

@Windwalker ... Where you storing all these chips? Did you buy like 20 birdcages, or are you doing something like a mechanics tool drawer?

WHERE'S DA PR0N???

@BearMetal, I posted some Pr0n pics in this thread, I think its on Page 1. In terms of storage, I'm figuring that out now. Have tons of birdcages I ordered, but am thinking of a custom cabinet of some sort.

Ah, I missed that post. Oh man, you also have BTP! You need to move to NJ so I can come over and play.

I want to see some pics when you have your storage solution finalized.

On another note, I think it would be hilarious if you were like, "alright, got the chips, now how do I play poker?"
