I'd to know, in your opinion, now that you've acquired a bunch, how far down the list of sets your Paulson classics has fallen, from being your initial target. Tastes change quickly when you start out.

That statement about tastes changing quickly couldn't more true. I started off HATING hot stamps. But now, they've grown on me. (Well, at least some have.) I never thought I'd be into vintage / leaded sets. But there is a beauty to the Outposts that's just mesmerizing. The Binion WSOP ones too.

Here is my current list of chips and chipcounts. I've removed some of the columns from my database like cost, PCF / outside source and average cost per denomination, but left the main source in. If PCF is listed first as a source, the majority of chips in that row came from a PCF'er. If an outside source is listed first, then the majority of that particular chip was acquired outside of the forum.

I have also listed the chips in my CURRENT order of "love". Of course, tastes will change once I've gotten these into play, hear comments from others players, and get a sense for how they feel/look on a table, in a game.

I have enjoyed your contributions to this site so far. It is easy to see you have excellent taste an you have acquired the chipper lingo in no time.

Someone who that comes into a market and becomes a major agent so fast will not make everyone happy. That is normal for any market. However, the long-term perception of you will not be determined primarily by that, but rather by what you give back as time goes by. Things that cost you nothing but time but gives value to others.

Enjoy your journey at PCF.

@Windwalker so Outpost are "most loved" at the moment? I find that surprising but agree that is a sleeper set which is awesome. Long term the Outposts will hold their own vs. flavour of the week sets.

Yes -- I just absolutely LOVE the colors and the feel.
Two favorite casino sets are the Outposts and the LCOs. Only sold them because it didn't seem that the $2s were going to be possible to come across.

They may not get the same love across the board, but you might want to get some LCOs in hand to feel em.

Great sets man. I've see nothing but class from you since you've joined, enjoy those amazing chips you've accumulated. I've learned pretty quickly that this is a hobby where many people tend to have deep pockets. Anyone that gives you a hard time is an asshat IMO. You're 6 weeks in and also a supporting member, so you're contributing to this site off the rip. Anywho, glad to have you on here and I look forward to hearing some stories about your baller ass games.

Six weeks ago, when I came onto this forum to find out more about some Paulson Classics and Le Noirs I had acquired, and also find out about the process of getting custom chips ordered, I hadn’t realized how addicting and exciting of a hobby I would stumble upon.

It probably should be said that I have always been a collector. In my childhood and teen years, I collected stamps and coins. During my graduate program, I became a bibliophile, specifically focused on modern first editions. To this day, my near-fine true first edition, first printing, SIGNED, complete with dustjacket copy of Catcher in the Rye is still my favorite possession. I even had a Harry Potter and J.R.R. Tolkien phase. I also happen to have one of the world's largest collections of Silver Age comics books.

As with most categories of collecting, my taste and propensity to buy nonsense at nonsensical prices usually settled down after I learned more about the category, but I have come to accept that as my style – a flurry of activity, followed by some refinement, and eventually, settling into a structured, smart system of acquiring / buying /collecting things.

Of course, none of this should even be remotely interesting to anyone, except in that I seem to have inadvertently ruffled some feathers on this forum through a string of recent purchases I have made. The ire seems to have progeny in two specific camps:
  • First, with a veteran style of PCFer who long for the days when this was a niche hobby and people were more thoughtful and fair about what was sold and at what price, a group that seems to follow a very specific unwritten rule: don’t sell a chip for more than you paid for it.
  • The second group is a set of people I seem to have annoyed because I either bought up chips they wanted, or because I drove up the price of something to the point where it seems to have affected market value.
Of course, as a new chipper in his honeymoon phase of chipping, I was only doing what my capital allows me to do – but I understand if that seems ostentatious or over-the-top. So, I write this post for two reasons.

First, to apologize for ruffling feathers, inadvertently offending anyone, or in general, any annoyance my buying behavior may have created. If you have interacted with me, I hope you’ll at least agree that I have acted with integrity and politeness in all our dealings. I’ve tried to be a contributing member (as much as six weeks would allow) and be involved in more than just buying.

Second, I’m writing to tell you what I plan to do about it.
  • Since most of the ire seems to be about me buying chips at the pace I was, the first action is simple. As of today, I am putting myself on a 90-day time-out on buying ANY new sets / chips with the following exceptions:
    • Any transaction that has already been initiated and we are in the middle of (wouldn’t be fair to the seller.)
    • Any “fillers” I may need for my acquired sets – barrels, missing chips, or extras in a specific denomination.
    • Any public sales of interest like ones run by @TheChipRoom.
  • My second action is a commitment for the next 2 years:
    • If I plan to get rid of any sets acquired through PCF after having them for a while, I will only offer it back through PCF at the price I bought them at, or lower.
    • For grail sets, I will provide ROFR to the original seller at the same price it was sold to me.
By the way, a significant number of members have been incredibly welcoming. But this is a community, and I wanted you to know I respect its norms, and am loving my chipping journey so far. I hope the commitments above help alleviate any rankled nerves.

Thanks for listening, and happy chipping!

These promises are to your credit — but I for one don’t think you have to promise to do any of the above. Not for me, anyway.

Story time? :D
Ohh... respectfully that is not the only deep pockets around these parts! When The big money 5 figure sets go up on the auction block... while I would love to say this Blue fish comes out of the depths with a monster bid! Unfortunately this particular blue fish is usually found in 4 ft or less of water... and not really blue.

When members refer to keeping quiet so the blue Fish doesn't know, or hear of a nice set being sold... that is what they mean! #FEARTHEBLUEFISH!! LMAO

I miss a lot too, but I’m not at all surprised there is at least some portion of this site upset with the way another person spends their money or sells their property. It’s par for the course. And let me guess, some of the people bitching the loudest also have multiple sets or walls full of sample sets, right? And, even more of a shocker to me, I can imagine that people who have many, many sets are not only mad about someone buying something they don’t have but also have came up with “solutions” on how they should have a shot at something to add to their many, many sets. It doesn’t surprise me anymore, but the amount of greed and drama some people operate on is crazy.

Congrats on some sick sets dude.

You don't owe an explanation to anyone.

As in life, it's always a very small vocal minority that are always shouting and making their voices/opinions heard but their sentiments don't reflect that of the masses.

Let's be real. One consumer is not going to single handedly determine the prices of a particular market. Unless you're Warren Buffett.

Do what you want to do in terms of your self imposed rules, but any sane rational human won't really care one way or the other because it's none of their god damn business.

That's a fine collection -- well done, sir!

I want to begin by saying that I appreciate @Windwalker for emphasizing kindness, integrity and fair dealings in this post and others I have seen (and for living out these values in practice, from what I can tell).

In my own experience with @Windwalker (in which he essentially offered to buy my unlisted chips, prior to knowing their price, quantity or condition), I was treated with the utmost respect, trust, and kindness. I also felt his genuine boyish glee about adding another set to his growing collection of toy tokens. Although he really didn't expect anything from me but honesty (and a few clay discs) in return for his innocent but perhaps irresponsible trust (which already seems to have evolved into a much more mature and sustainable -- but no less infectiously thoughtful -- approach to chipping), I'd like to try to return the favor.

IMHO, these virtues far surpass knowledge, status, savviness and good taste, and go infinitely further to attract my trust, respect and desire to root for or align with others (or even to do business together, if only in a more limited transactional sense).

To me, these values should guide us all, whether we are talking about our beloved chipping eutopia or our lives as a whole. At the pearly gates of chipping heaven, perhaps we will all be measured someday by reference to such noble standards.

What does @Windwalker have to offer this community? Apparently, it's a tad more than just the blank check we've been looking for to bail us out of poor chipping decisions or to extract max profits from the good ones.

I look forward to seeing what great things lie ahead for our community, and I cannot help but to expect that @Windwalker will play some meaningful role in that...or perhaps he has already begun doing so.

That was incredibly kind of you to say, thank you.

You have nothing to apologize for. But kudos to you if you want to stick by your self-imposed restrictions.

i agree with this 100%. however, i cannot even fathom how you managed to accumulate this amount of amazing chips over the exact same timeframe i spent waiting for my custom CSQ order to progress from "CSQ mold run is starting now" to "your chips are 1/2 done" :jawdrop:

First and foremost prior to quoting anything in the OP, no need to apologize for anything. Absolutely nothing. Every person that collects has his or her own way of acquiring items. Whether or not the item is overpaid for ends up being an opinionated reaction.

Secondly, everybody that joins PCF has brought something to the table one way or another. If there’s one thing you’ve accomplished other than collect pretty sets, is that you’ve added some excitement to the classifieds right as it was experiencing a lengthy lull. I think that’s healthy. Brings out chips or full sets that may have otherwise collected more dust.

You didn’t have to do squat to make up for so-called ruffled feathers but the gesture alone is awesome. Unfortunately, no matter how hard we try there’s always going to be some asshats that come out of the woodwork to complain. Comes with the package and for the most part I say, shouldn’t bother you. To each his own right?

Collect away man and enjoy these circular clay works of art.

Seeing Jack Detroit as one of the top sets you love makes me happy. I’m very thankful to @Steppenwolf for introducing me to PCF and chipping right when Jack Detroit’s were sold. For that reason, I’m very sentimentally attached to them. Even if something out there comes out blowing them out if the water, they’re still my fav. Enjoy them! I also like that BTP is closer to the bottom of that list. Murder as many as you can and when you have a drink to toast what you’ve turned them into, have one on my behalf too please hahahaha

Cheers, happy chipping.
