I just played in a tournament where every time a hand was mucked, you had to turn it over face up in front of you. The only two times your hand wasn't forced to be shown, was if you won the pot or got to showdown and couldn't beat the person who was betting. It actually was a lot of fun. There was so much information available every hand. A couple of times there were pairs that were mucked preflop with no raise, because they could see they weren't going to hit a set because of the cards mucked face up. A few times there were raising wars just because neither player wanted to have to show their hand. The tournament was such a hit, the host is definitely doing it again!

This seems like a very hard game to lose money in and would make position even more valuable than it already is

Watching this thread... not sure how I feel about this. Might do a trial tournament doing this for the first 3 levels and see how it goes.

It started off a little slower than a regular tournament, but than everyone got it. It's hard to break the habit of mucking face down too.

Just for clarities sake, I assume the players actually folded face up and left the cards in front of them for the entirety of the hand. Is that right?

Although often (and incorrectly) used to mean the same thing, folding and mucking are two different things. Only the dealer mucks cards by placing the cards in a muck pile. Players don’t muck. They fold or discard.

I think I would love this. I'm pretty sure I've played something like this before (for one round in a crazy random rules tournament). I've also called the game showmaha before in dealer's choice games (PLO where every player still in after the flop has to show 2 hole cards). I think it brings some very interesting dynamics into the game.
