Parent Teacher Association.

I run a charity poker tournament for a local title one school filled with poverty and refugee students.

We raised over $13,000 this year.

Did you guys personally have to handle the logistics or did the PTA/school take lead on that part?

We've tried pushing for this and other fund raising, but have always ran into issues. For us, the schools have always been to risk averse. We have to jump through hoops like registering with our Bureau of Gambling and have to sign off on a lot of issues, like not a single penny making it's way anywhere near the event/tables.

You offered $1k to charity in exchange for me cutting off my own legs in my only ongoing social construct/exchange for a year, and adding to that our house is currently on the market for our move so I'll have even less than normal local social engagement in my life for the majority of that time.

I avoid interacting with you at all costs on here, but responded because it's a potential worthwhile engagement.

$5k and I go to the end of this year seemed rather fair imo, plus there's 0 doubt that 4 other people would come in at $1k with you if you want to go that route. I'd even split the amount, yall pick where half of it goes, I pick where the other half goes.

Yay or nay? Not sure why the above was your response, but it is on brand. Maybe I should've went with my gut and not replied?

edit - happy to work out something else, but I felt this was pretty reasonable/strong offer. It's less than $1k per month, and only pays out if I make it the entire way, which noone here believes would happen. I'd go as far as adding to it that I put up $X amount ($500?) for when I fail, to be paid directly to you, not charity.

Gotcha. First kiddo is only 6 months old. In addition, our property taxes are so high in ohio and we actually have a great public school system, that would be the last place that needs a fundraiser. But totally understand now.

Oh, see I assumed you could make it through two sentences without getting confused. And that’s on me. But not surprised that you got yourself into this mess with that poor of communication.

I said I’d donate $1000 to Craig’s charity if you quit posting about this. It’s clear to everyone but you. It needs no negotiation, no accepting from you, no counteroffer, no response, no nothing.

I kinda hope you keep posting though. I laugh at you. Karma and comeuppance are enjoyable

I handled the logistics. In Texas poker is legal if held in a private space - so we hosted at an Elk's Lodge. The school district is not involved, I ran the charity tournament for the benefit of the PTA. We had an open bar, but that was just me having a tab open. So it was all above board.

I did get a random email from a Texas Alcohol Board investigator regarding the event after the fact, but I marked it as spam. That might be future Craig problem.

I did move the goalposts and contradicted your original statement, you’re right.

Taxes don't fund the PTA. The PTA is the organization that supplies funds for most field trips, school holiday parties, funds for teacher supplies, and other "fun" stuff like a dodgeball court or student garden/farm etc.

To give an idea, the local elementary school my kids attended had a PTA who raised $150k/yr. The school 6 blocks away has a PTA budget of less than $1k/yr. Mostly due to drawing district lines to ensure the "apartment" kids and refugees didn't have to attend "our" schools.

So we decided to do our best to support the inequality in elementary schools, since they all fees into the same middle and high schools. Our fundraiser is 98% of this schools PTA budget.

My observations from this and other threads.

1. Sheep don’t care what happens to the other barnyard animals.

2. If there is a perceived slight here - someone feels insulted, soneone got ripped off, someone posted an unpopular opinion in an opinion thread, or even if they don’t like the “tone of your post (is that a thing in the internet?) - then they are free to “get even” or “seek retribution” and the TOS just don’t apply to them anymore. I’m not sure what the multiplier is, like 10x what was lost or 10x the slights, or it may be infinite, I don’t know.
This is not only allowed, it is encouraged and laughed at.

Our interactions have literally been him pming an offer on chips in 2023, and me offering him chips via pm on something he posted as wanting, again in 2023. Unfortunately for PCF Charity Boxing Fight Night, no ill will or bad blood.

Besides, I look more like Rikishi than I do those guys. Time for me to buy.....whatever in the world it is that Rikishi wears.

A real poker player would have shipped more chips to the person assuming that rack of chips would nudge the other chips along, resulting in funds being sent.
IF that doesnt work, you ship one more rack, in case thats the rack that hits big !

If they want to follow me into every thread to make sure that no one forgets I bit off more than I could chew chipping wise and wasn’t great at shipping AND communication half a decade ago - more power to em.

The worrying aspect is that historically we’ve seen people’s issues go “off PCF”. We’ve witnessed threats against people’s jobs/careers, we’ve seen law enforcement involvement suggested, we’ve seen relationships entanglements brought public, etc.

I think that’s beyond absurd. They’re…poker chips. We deal here based on trust. When people decide that that no longer matters based on “karma” - whelp we’re not very far from our PCF guardians deciding to run everyone’s names on the various state gov run court searches that provide full legal, civil, etc. history with just a first and last name.

Maybe the next step is, “I don’t have to pay John because Arizona says he owes back pay in child support”.

I’ve never been more thankful to be done buying and selling publicly.

lol we already get this. It’s ok to rip off IP for chip designs because “casinos are rich, screw them” and “everybody else is doing this on Temu” so it’s ok.

I like seeing peoples justification for acting amoral when they want something like a 5 yr old.
What’s really bizarre here is that people are willing to act amoral and be proud of it just to own cheap stuff from China.

But you messed up here once, so you “deserve” to be dogged for life, and you do not “deserve” any TOS protections.
