I am looking to purchase poker chips with the denominations of 1K, 5K, 25K and 100K for tournament structured games for a maximum of 10 players. I am usually used to using 5 denominations to play tournaments and not use to four. Any suggestions on how many chips to purchase with this type of situation and how coloring up would work?

Thanks

I would probably suggest stacks of 10/13/9/x of 1K/5K/25K/100K where x is the number of 100K chips for your desired starting stack (the other chips total 300K.)

Say you plan 500K starting stacks. Then you want 10/13/9/2

So multiply that by 10 and you get a buy of 100/130/90/20. Add some extras for color up and rebuys and maybe 100/140/100/60 for a 400 chip set?

Just one thought. Hope it helps.

^^ This seems reasonable for a 250BB event with 1000/2000 opening blinds. Using 15/12/9/2 stacks also works, generating a 150/120/90/40 400-chip set. This set likely plays slightly better, while the set above has a bit more flexibility.

For maximum flexibility, go with 10/8/10/2 stacks (100/80/100/120 = 400-chip set), using the extra 100k chips for color-ups, re-buys, add-ons, and/or larger starting stacks.
