I joined the forum couple of months ago, bought a couple of sets already (no paulsons yet) and have not had the chance to really put them in play (just a few times). I really don't need more chips but as you guys know it is very tempting!!! I'd like to have one small set of real casino chips... anyways my realistic budget is 0 but my emotional budget is low-mid lol

So I'll be interested in the cheapest chips here, probably the 1s and 5s (probably 25s). I saw in the forum I should not be worried too much. I saw however that the people interested in higher denom chips usually have to buy lower denom chips that they don't really need to respect 'quotas'. My question is the following:

These people sell the lower denom chips on the classified afterwards, but at what price? is it usually at a better price? maybe I should simply wait to unload these people after the sales? Basically I'm looking for a winning strategy on my side, but also on the other part as I understand it could help some getting the higher denoms, so win-win... I do not have much experience so I'm reaching to you guys for wisdom :)

Actually I'm also curious to understand why the higher denoms are more expensive and more look after... is it because they are simply rare? maybe because the colors used for higher denoms are rare as well so if you are looking into building a set with specific colors you have no other options (for real casino chips of course...)?

Thank you

The resale is sometimes at cost, but more often a slight markup. But with the sheer volume of chips, I don't anticipate a huge markup.

High denoms are more expensive for one or any combination if the following reason:
  1. Demand is high
  2. Supply is lower compared to lower denominations
  3. They usually don't see as much play at the casino and are therefore in better shape

Some members will resell chips after the sale for what they paid for them but usually the prices are a little higher than what Jim charges in the original sale. If you want the best price you need to order on the day of the sale.

Sometimes, people will release as purchase at cost, which includes shipping to them, plus shipping to you. This typically happens when someone purchases, say two racks of $5's and decide they don't want/need them after arrival. When the whole purchase goes up for sale, initial shipping is rolled into the price.

Sometimes, people will only sell extra racks that they had to buy to get the breakdown they wanted. In those situations, some sellers will absorb the cost of initial shipping.

A motivated seller may sell at a slight loss, but I agree the best prices are generally from Jim direct. He knows a thing or two about setting the market price...

Believe me sir, I'm already plotting my next order for you. I'll have a small add on from a previous order, but I want to get everything in at once and I'm waiting for some shoes to drop :)
Let me know when you decide to place an order Joe, want to grab a few CDI labels. We’ll combine and save on shipping if that’s ok.

We have run into a bit of an impasse. We have run out of boxes and racks. I have order more boxes from Warneke, but they won't be in until Wednesday of next week. We will burn the midnight oil once we have them and have the sale info up shortly after the boxes arrive.

Thanks for your patience.

Jim
I laughed so hard at this post.

One because the idea of @TheChipRoom running completely out of boxes and racks just boggles my mind.

Two, it's like Jim just told a bunch of heroin addicts that he got the shipment in, but ran out of the little ziploc baggies.

Here's another way of looking at it. These are cash chips. How many $5K and $25K chips (or even $500 & $1000) does a casino need compared to$1, $5, $25, & $100. But demand is high for us because those of us who want to buy these high denom chips will use them (I assume :bigbucks: ) as tournament chips. So to put together a playable tournament set, we need a lot of $100 to $25K. Where a cash set would not.

And think of yet another way to look at it. From a legal perspective, a cash chip represents a direct legal liability to the casino corporation. So, a rack of these chips represents $2.5MM that they would have to pay out to someone who legitimately had it in their possession. How many of these chips would a small- or medium-sized casino want to have around? Probably not a huge amount.

Jack Detroit $5K had 2000 each of primary and secondary. On a direct scale, how many $25K could they have had ready to cover their high-roller game play? 400-500? Less?

After calculating my chipping bankroll all I want(need) is $5s. There should be plenty right??

Those bad boys are the secondaries. The primary 5s should be a little easier to obtain, and I suspect more budget friendly too. And still nice looking chips.
I agree. The primary $5 chip is much nicer than the secondary. I think the 4 primary chips from the $5 to the $500 are superior looking to the secondaries.

Heh... different strokes for different folks. I think the secondaries are superior for every denom.... except the metallic $5k and $25k which are awesome.
