Wanted Royal Yak Set (1 Viewer)

Tournament denoms are likely the original "casino ordered but never used" Royal Yak casino chips. Probably a reason they are harder to find.
A lot of the lower denoms (fracs, $1, and $20) are reproductions (poor quality reproduction) made by Palm Gaming and some by GOCC more recently (high quality reproduction).

Good luck with the search, Vic. Sorry for hoarding the tourney denoms (mix of Chipco, PGI, GOCC).

I'll definitely hit you up if I ever decide to unload.

How can I tell which is which? And which I should get over the others? Most likely going to be a cash set if I do find any if that helps at all.

Thanks man! No need to apologize, I’ll just have to come play with them at your game sometime if that’s cool :p

I have cash and tourney sets as well. I've keep wavering on whether or not to unload them. If I do, I'll be checking with local hosts first, as I'd still like to visit them. I've already sold the cash set once and ended up buying one like it back.

Yak_Cash_All.jpg

I've owned my tourney set since the original sale on CT, and briefly sold and re-bought my cash set. Our cash games rarely need $5, let alone the $20 or $100, so I'm not concerned about denoms mixing. I've never used a $100 chip in a cash game.

My understanding of the Royak Yal history, based on my recollection and the history available on the Wayback Machine.
https://web.archive.org/web/2013042...ible-one-time-gb-yak-casino-gaming-chips.html

Based on that page, PGI acquired 50k chips from Chipco in $5, $25, $500, and $1000 denominations. PGI printed the $100 and $5000 chips. The last post on that link indicted that the $1 didn't exist, but they could design one if needed.

Original sale on CT by PGI
$5, $25, $500, and $1000 were made by Chipco
5c, 25c, $1, $20, $100, and $5000 were made by PGI

The 5c and $1 that were made by PGI appear to have used different blanks, as there are height differences between those denoms and the others. They are approx 1/2 chip thicker in a stack of 20.

A few years ago, additional chips were made by GOCC. Dark blue $1 and blue $10k were specifically GOCC. as were the orange $20 in my cash set. GOCC chips are very close to Chipco. I can't really tell them apart.

Height comparison:
Left to right: PGI Royal Yak $1, Chipco Royal Yak $5, GOCC (samples, not Yaks). If you want a more recent comparison, let me know. I did this before I obtained the GOCC Yaks.

I'm still kicking myself for loaning 10 of my Yak $20 to MoscowRadio (along with some other hard-to-get sample sets, such as my BW sample). Those are long gone. I still check eBay for them...I figure they'll show up there eventually.

Wow! Thanks for the detailed breakdown/info! This is super helpful.
If I decide to sell the cash set and no one local is interested, I'll let you know.
I’d take cash or tourney :) if you ever sell that is! I’m all ears. Assuming @MegaTon44 has enough and let’s me at em hahahaha. Thanks again :D

Cool summary of the history.
I also have a sizeable tourney and cash hoard from the original sale plus some from the GOCC group buy.

I forgot the $100's were not original Chipcos.
The originals have a more defined logo and I think have microprint on the face and have UV print?

Correction: $100's were part of original Chipco Yak line up. 5-25-100-500-1000

According to page of the CT link on the wayback machine, the OP states

I have approx 50,000 gaming chips- probably some of the LAST chips to roll of the Chipco assembly line- for the YAK casino in Mexico- evidently the country didnt allow gaming so these chips were never delivered to the casino and are in our possession. The print quality is stunning.
Once I confirm the above information these chips will be sold first- to chiptalk members- for 50c each in increments of 100 chips per denomination/rack or we will consider a bulk offer for ALL 50,000 chips for a verified buyer/reseller.

I believe we have four denominations and can press a fifth denomination since the order was never completed.

I'll post pics as soon as our new site is up and running and I can upload some images
ADDED: BLACK 100 this date

According to page 3 of the CT link on the wayback machine, there's a quoted post from PGI that states
"Originally Posted by palmimports View Post

1- $100 black chip
2- 25c pink chip
3- $1 baby blue chip
"

Between the two posts, I believe the $100 was the fifth denomination that PGI printed internally. It was not produced by Chipco.

We need to track this man down hahaha. 50,000 chips!! Doubt he has them anymore. Didn’t even know this was a casino that would’ve been in Mexico.

Ahhh I see. Didn’t know these chips had this much history behind them. I’ve had so many chances to buy since I joined PCF and never even batted an eye, now I’ve realized what I’ve missed haha.

I saw that. It looks like maybe Joe noted they were going to produce $100's but you see he annotated the post with ADDED: BLACK 100

Easy enough. Put a $100 chip under UV light.
I would do it, but I'm in Brazil for a few weeks.

Where were all of you a few weeks ago when I was looking for this information? :ROFLMAO:

Seriously, this is probably the most complete history I've seen on these chips. I think I may have collected about 25% of what's here in my own notes. Good stuff!

Another cool piece of history with this set is the oversized Bounty chips. @ChaosRock (Paulo) can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he had a rack of them custom made by PGI. These have since been divided up: 40 to me, 40 to @CdnBeerLover, and 20 to @Chipnut. One of my goals is to reunite them all again at some point.

As for the owner of the Yak artwork, I would figure either @ABC Gifts and Awards (acquired PGI) or GOCC (drove the last buy) currently owns the rights, but anyone with more info can please check me.

Hey I want some now too LOL. Assuming I one day find a tourney set :p

I started trying to drill into who had the artwork on the chance that there would be enough interest in a group buy, but I couldn't sort out which manufacturers had been bought by who. I did confirm that BR Pro Poker doesn't have the artwork (not that I think they ever did, but ).

My understanding
- Chipco made the original chips
- Chipco went bankrupt.
- Palm Gaming Imports (PGI) bought the assets from Chipco.
- PGI closed.
- ABC Gifts and Awards / BR Pro Poker (same people, as far as I know) bought the assets of PGI, including the Chipco equipment.

Somewhere along the way, GameOnChipCompany acquired artwork, as they created some add-ons. How that was was accomplished, and if they could be persuaded to do another run, is anyone's guess. They are apparently difficult to contact (I haven't tried).

I also though ABC and BR Pro were the same, but Kristil at BR Pro replied to my email request that they don't have that design.

You missed the beginning of the story:
- Chipco made the original chips for the Royal Yak Casino in Mexico, but their license for table games was never approved, so they were never delivered to the casino. Basically they were new, unused casino chips when Palm sold them off.

- Crazy side story - a large Royal Yak sign on the corner of the building was also never permitted and it fell off the building and killed a local school supervisor.

1632721153998.png

My understanding from the GOCC group buy was that GOCC was in possession of the original chip artwork.
The chips from that group buy more or less confirmed the artwork used was the original - or a REALLY good copy.

I bought a UV light this evening, and checked out the chips. Very interesting.

I stand corrected on the $100. Like the other Chipco-made chips, it does have the UV markings. The PGI and GOCC chips do not. I wasn't expecting the dealer button to have UV markings, but it does.

Top row: 5c (PGI), 25c (PGI), $1 (PGI), $5 (Chipco), $20 (GOCC)
Middle row : $25 (Chipco), $100 (Chipco), $500 (Chipco), $1000 (Chipco), $5000 (PGI), $10,000 (GOCC)
Bottom row: Dealer (PGI)

Since I had both sets out, I set out one 20-chip stack per denomination in a row (5c to $10k) to show the height differences in some of the denominations.

Wow! You got that black light super fast @CdnBeerLover hahaha.

That reminds me, daily bump :) could use
100 x 25c
Any quantity x orange 20’s
200 x 25’s
100 x 100’s

+ tourney set :)
