Rounders: Why Is Grama So Angry? (2 Viewers)

There’s also the great lines from Ed Norton earlier in the film, “stacks and towers of checks I can’t even see over…”
Huh, somehow I never caught that before. Thanks! I probably just heard “chips” because it’s what my brain would have been expecting. I wonder if it’s regional; can’t say I’ve ever heard that term.

I had always gone with the impression that the onlookers has some side-action on the game. Grama had taken Teddy / sold action on Mike some time between the "I'll take what is ours" line and the final hand. A couple 1000 here, a couple 1000 there, and suddenly his $15,000 payout became much less.

The guys that won betting on Mikey would be wise to remain mum on the topic. I might bet against Teddy KGB, but I'm not going to cheer WSOP-style when the mob guy just lost. That would be terrible etiquette (and potentially detrimental to your health).

Grama wasn't in it for the money. I got the feeling it was an old grudge with Mike/Worm and he only wanted the excuse to wreck them both
That's the best explanation. There was a little exposition in the first meeting with Worm when he is angry about "being your lackey" right before he reveals he owns the debt now.

I've always thought this is a casino-specific term.

I would hate to think that @Tommy misnamed the place and it should have been "PokerChequeForum.com" all these years

Somewhat related Matt Damon and Ben Affleck were on a podcast where they continue to say they want to make Rounders 2 but the hang up is the rights/Miramax/Weinstein. Not sure if they really want to do it or it’s just fan service to say that.

FYI it was the Bill Simmons podcast a few weeks ago on Spotify.

Rolled up aces over kings. Check-raising stupid tourists and taking huge pots off of them. Playing all-night high-limit Hold'em at the Taj, "where the sand turns to gold." Stacks and towers of checks I can't even see over.

I’ve always used chips and checks (or cheques) interchangeably. I do understand and agree with the idea that there is a difference between tokens that represent cash and tournament tokens.

i don’t think I’ve ever said cheques because it feels pretentious to me, because (although it’s the correct term) in my experience practically nobody says it in a casino. I’ve heard a Floor say it from time to time, but I don’t hear it said often.

We'll back into they day before casino dealers could do this by pushing a button, they would have to yell "checks" to get a runner over for players that want to buy in.

Also, Ace asks the cheater. "I saw you shuffling your checks with your right hand. Can you do that with both hands?"

NSFW WARNING. Violence.

I think after the scene ended, everyone was like, “why the hell did you flip the table?” Gramma couldn’t answer. They were too cheap to reshoot, and the rest is history.

@Servo Cheques for cash games, chips for tournaments. Just as the words imply cheques can be redeemed for money and chips have no cash value unless you collect them all I guess lol.
