I have spoken with David at CPC and have been given the go ahead to start an interest thread on a Rounders, Teddy KGB replica chip set.

To me, the chips in Rounders are second only to the WSOP chips on my want list. I've contemplated more than once on doing a replica set, and even did a Canadian Rounders re-label set on the Roman mold. Unfortunately, the Roman mold is no longer fit for use, however that meant I was able to get permission on something equally nice.

The original artwork that JimB used for the chips in the movie will be used for this set! The chips will be produced on the scroll mold. The scroll mold is my favourite CPC mold available for use at this time. I have a small quantity of ASM produced scroll mold chips (JimB ASM) and they are AWESOME. (I own sets on the following molds, for comparison purposes, A mold, B mold, Circle Square, Diamond Square, Elephant and Crown, Fleur de Lis, H mold, Hourglass, Horsehead Right, Roman, and 44mm A mold)

I am not certain yet if this will be an actual group buy , where all chips ordered will be through myself, or if CPC will allow separate orders.

My current plans are to deviate somewhat from the Rounders chips and here is what I am looking at doing for myself.

$25 chip , Green 314 DG Peach (this changes from the 414 spot in the movie)
$100 chip , Black 414 DG Green
$500 chip , Blurple 614 DG Arc Yellow (this changes to Blurple from ? in the movie)
$1000 chip , 44mm Scroll DG Saturn Yellow 514 Blue (might go with a different blue for the spot, not sure yet)
$5000 chip , 44mm Scroll Maroon 514 DG Pink (not set in stone on this, open to suggestions)

THE ONLY THING THAT IS SET IN STONE FOR THIS PURCHASE
- Inlays to be JimB's originals
- Mold is to be scroll

So, if you want to do different colours, spots, etc, so long as you can make the minimum quantity, it's a go.

Now, does anyone else want to play some poker with some of the most famous chips ever?

Mike

I had tried to add a second post right after the first, but it only allowed me to 'edit' the original post. Anyways, here's some more thoughts / info :

David mentioned that the scroll mold has not been used yet by CPC, and thus, similar to the FDL mold rebirth, he is wanting to get a few thousand orders in, to make it worth while for them to run this.

Timeframe would likely be ~3 months or so. There are orders in line already, so these would be placed after those.

If some people from Canada are afraid of shipping charges, I can re-ship them from Canada. However there would be a shipping cost from CPC to me, and then me to final destination.

If some people only want sample sets, they can piggy back onto my order, and I can send those out if needed.

I am most likely in for ~800 39mm chips and ~300 44mm chips

Here's some of the actual props from the movie:
rounders01.jpg

and
rounders05.jpg

I believe these are also props:
Rounders02.jpg

and here was a mockup I found on CT:
rounders03.jpg

of course, that mockup is on a different mold, and is not the correct artwork.

A really rough mockup:

Pending final details, count me in for around 800... Thanks for the effort Mike!

* Only a minor suggestion: I'd go for 44mm only for the T5K as it would make it even more special... I'm good either way though...

Shaggy, I'll try to work on some mockups, but my skills are limited. The inlay size on the scroll mold is the same as the roman mold, so they will look as close to the originals as possible (in my mind.)

Redbelly, I think you have enough chips now that you can just slide another set right in without your wife even noticing. Rinse. Repeat. And yes, 44mm is very key to this for me anyways.

ChaosRock, the beauty of this 'group buy' is that if you would prefer to go with a 39mm 1k and only the 5k be 44mm, you can do that! If you don't like the colours I'm choosing, you can change it! (Unless you only want a sample set, then you would have to piggy back on someone's order.)

I know I'm stating the obvious for most here, but if for whatever reason you're not aware, this is ENORMOUS.

People have tried for years with varying degrees of success to replicate the Rounders chips and they always had to do some combination of colorizing or changing the font or changing the bear. Yeah, it's a different mold, but use of the original artwork is such a phenomenal achievement.

Kudos to Mike for getting this together.

What's wrong with the Roman mold? Redbelly's looks to be in fine shape :)

We figured that as it was only clip art to start with, the design was Jim's own, and more than 15 years have passed since the movie we wouldn't have a problem as long as the mold was new.

Times 1 billion. Maybe if it drags out for 6 months there could be a slight possibility...

or two years? I think I ordered like 2600 CPS chips, but I am not sure. Can't remember what I ordered, or IF I ordered. It's all so blurry.

I also second the request for mockups, or pics of the originals you're trying to replicate/tribute

To clarify, this needs at least a couple of thousand on both size molds. The setup time/cost on the 44mm is enormous as it is both the scroll mold and its corresponding slug mold (which would then have to be switched straight back out of the press afterwards). Im thinking I need demand for minimum 2500 x 39mm and 3500 x 44mm but then subtract from that samples which I will need for various purposes - estimate 400 x 39mm, 1700 x 44mm. So if we could get orders for 2100 x 39mm & 1800 x 44mm I would be good with it.

Of course I would count any other orders that can be placed at the same time within the desired numbers.

No need for logo mockups yet... just chip factory with generic inlay. Maybe side by side with movie image.

I would love a useable cash set. I could go for smaller denoms or 1/100th the face value... but then I would need a 2500 and maybe a 10000. Could just be different artwork on the 1k and 5k. Looking forward to how this develops.

No horse in this race but while Blurple is nice iirc it is darker than Lavender. I would personally go with lavender

You're not supposed to sell BOTH kidneys...and I already spent my kids college funds on the extra tables I've ordered [emoji33]

You can sell both kidneys subject to the following conditions:
1. You already paid the full amount of the order
2. You provide an alternative shipping address for the chips :)

Actually, I don't buy into this at all. By my reckoning Redbelly has already sold 3 :D

re: time frame
The 3 months that I mentioned was an absolute minimum. So if you need a slight bit longer timeframe, if you can secure your deposit, I think you can get in on this action!

re: blurple
I don't have an actual sample, but to my eyes on the monitor, it looks to be in between lavender and purple. That's what I prefer, but again, no one needs follow my options.

How did you know about Redbelly's 'side job'. And you thought Redbelly referred to an airplane?

We all know Sean has leveraged his job at Southwest to import human "donors" on buddy passes. Unfair comparison.

All good, wasnt sure if you wanted brighter or darker, anyways IMO Blurple is the best shade of purple offered by CPC

Stocky, I am going to be doing everything in my power to get this thing to go ahead, so I've got you down for a sample set ;)

Links, thanks, but David and Jim are the ones making this a possibility. I'm just trying to smash a dream set!

Again, I don't see this as being a problem at all. 300 chips mean you should be able to design 3 denoms.
