Hello everyone!

I'm new to the forum and I'm getting ready to create my first custom set of chips. I'm thinking of a mid-century modern theme (retro). Anyone have photos or links they could share of designs in that theme?

Any responses would be appreciated.

Cheers!

Hello and welcome

I would suggest going here www.thechipguide.com
Look through pics of lots of old chips to get a feel for what you like and gather pics of what appeals to you. After spending some time doing that find a designer. Any money spent will be well worth it.

+1 for digging into some of the older casino designs. Mapes, Flamingo, Plaza, Tropicana, Lakeshore and Stardust all come to mind as having a retro MCM vibe to them.

I've heard of this in architecture & furniture design. Chips? Are you talking label or mold? TRK scrown hotstamps was the 1st thing I imagined but I'm a GenX. Hey @Okku what say you?
I’m thinking the inlay designs and color combinations.

If doing CPCs, when using the design tool just avoid the dayglo colors, especially for your base color. Retro lavender, red and green along with regular white and canary all give a retro vibe. And butterscotch. And for spotted chips, avoid the fancy patterns. Many early sets with spots used the 312 pattern.

Another option is to buy actual retro chips and relabel them. Here are a couple of very reasonably priced sets of older chips. The A-mold 312s are incredibly retro looking.

I appreciate the advice. Thank you.

My first thought was the lounge by @AlbinoDragon.

The H mold really works for a mid century theme and is still available at CPC. It was used for the Flamingo starring in the 40s, other old school Vegas casinos, and a number of casinos from the heydays of Havana Cuba in the 50s.

Full disclosure, call me biased as I used it for my Casino Nacional set (it's not a mid century modern theme though).

Make sure to get samples, engage a professional designer here, ask for feedback from the community, and don't rush the process

I recently recommended this design tool, more useful for brainstorming than finalizing inlays, for which I would recommend using an actual designer:

https://www.design.com/s/logo-maker

If you give it cues like “retro” and “Vegas” and “midcentury” you will get hundreds of automated ideas which can then be refined (to add type on a curve, etc.).

Thanks for the advice! I did order a full sample set as I know colors on a computer screen can be way different than in person. I learned something new today about the H mold too. Very interesting. Found this online about its history: https://www.keywestresortcasino.com/history-of-key-west-chips.html

Oh, I forgot to mention your Havana set looks fantastic!

Reno TRKs from the 50s/60s would be the prime example of something that you're looking for I think. I can send some examples if you'd like!

Thank you! I Googled that and saw several pictures online (some in PCF). They use the small crown mold that I like a lot.
