I’m in the process of labeling over some RHC chips to create my tribute to the Bellagio. Labeling over inlays is no problem but I’m having a difficult time deciding on labeling over hotstamps. I have $.50 chips from Tonkawa.

I don’t want to label over them if they will peel off the hotstamp for my own vain set. Even though this will be a keeper set for me, I don’t want to murder something that can’t come back to the community. Any thoughts or experience? Thanks for your input.

Labeling over a Hot Stamp will almost certainly cause damage if you decide to remove it later. The adhesive will certain;y remove some of the foil of the HS. If you are wanting to restore any of the chips back to their former identity then I would not label over any HS that you think you might try to reverse later.

Thanks Tater. That’s what I figured. Just wanted confirmation. I’ll leave as is since these Tonks are unique and aren’t made anymore.

I would have milled; the lack of a recessed inlay would almost certainly cause spinners if labels are placed over a hot stamp. If you don't mind that and your crew isn't picky, knock yourself out, but just wanted to let you know what you're getting yourself into!

It's not all doom and gloom. If you've got used hot stamped chips where the stamp in the recess is just about worn flat, then you can use an unlaminated label over it and it will look fine. However, the chip cannot be so worn down that the recess has just about disappeared, otherwise you've got spinners regardless.
