What are your thoughts on a private auction to select pcfers that I like/ have a relationship with/ respect, ect... via pm?

Poor etiquette? No different than private sales? Ect...

Curious of your opinions, thanks

B

i'm a new chipper so these wouldn't work out in my favor, but I'm totally fine with it. the open market aggressiveness is off-putting of course, and I'm not innocent, so i can see why long timers and real community folks would try to preserve some good will amongst friends and family. people should be free to deal as they please i think, a lot of people here have certainly earned the right to circumvent deep pocket "collectors."

FYI looking for pcr/pip hotstamp and proteges!!! :))))))

If that's what you want to do why do you need PCF to do it or anyone's approval to do so?

You can use start a group chat on a multitude of different apps and achieve the same outcome.

I'm not looking for approval. I'm looking for opinions. Isn't that what you do on a forum?

Sounds like a great idea and definitely in the spirit of the community lately.

I’m also sure it’ll help to break down some of the clique walls that have been growing ever larger over the last few years.

You ever step in dog shit and then smell it to make sure it is what you think it is? This question is would make that a good metaphor.

P.S. I don’t like any of your chips, so I hope I’m on the list!

I guess it depends on your relationships with your friends - if they all think it's a good idea, then it's a good idea. But to me, an auction means you're trying to squeeze every last buck out of the sale. And usually when we're selling chips to friends, we're not trying to do that. So it seems like a weird idea to me. If I had 3 friends who all wanted my set, I'd be more likely to flip a coin or something?

That is something that has crossed my mind. If I do this, it wouldn't be too just friends, hmm

I recently sold @Ben8257 a few samples. I kept bidding against my self and taking less money.... apparently I'm not very good at private auctions lol.

Solid point, thanks for the insight.

That is very true, but also I will never sell them and as with all of our chipping transactions Bill if you ever change your mind all you have to do is ask and they will be in a box headed home within hours. You know that I mean That!

But you definitely did Reverse auction yourself, we both know that those samples are worth much more. But doesn't matter to me as I would not sell them.

Good point. Let me clarify. I left a small point out. I may be lightly buzzed. This would be a group pm. All information available to everyone.
Let me also clarify.

I know you'd be above board. But I would not engage in this transaction with everyone on this forum. Some would limit information to manipulate the process.

If course, I'd have less reservations with all information being known to all.

Same here. With everyone being in the same group PM thread I would probably be at risk of losing money because it would be easy for a couple of side conversations on the sets as a whole. Screw it. At least they would be going to people that I like/respect?

Some of the sample sets were gifted, some were expensive, some were at cost.

Bill……..
Do what ever the hell you want! Last I checked, opinions are like assholes! ;)

How is the new gig going bud?

I will do what I want. I'm sure there was a few things I didn't think about with this process so I brought it here. A couple of the posts have been helpful.

New gig is going well my friend. Still working on a regular routine but it all comes in time. :)

Part of me feels like it’s a good idea, but I also think it could look like profiting is your goal from your friends.

Based on what we know about auctions, we know that if profit is your only goal then a public auction is for profit. Clearly that’s not what you’re looking to do.

I’m big on assessing intention along with action so if you’re telling me you’re doing it for a reason that is fair and just, I’m all for it (until you give me a reason not to trust you).

All that being said, I love the idea of an auction because it gives all your friends a fair chance while still allowing you to receive some level of market value for your chips, and your friends don’t have to be outbid by someone who will hold the chips for 2-weeks and then try and boost the price (no offense to anyone ;)). It’s a win for you and your friends.

Thank you for the well thought out post. I'm looking forward to having a bourbon with you in a couple of months!
