I guess I'm in the minority, but I hate antes in tournaments. I don't see that how they serve a valid or unique purpose in a tournament. Cash games, sure. Tournaments, no.

So, having a player to post all antes just seems like adding another layer to an already flawed layer.

In short, antes add a layer of complexity to the game. A consolidated ante will eventually take over the traditional posting of antes because 10 to 15 percent more hands are seen and it removes the need of having a chip that is a fraction of the SB on the table. I believe over time, casinos will gravitate towards a button ante because the calculations players have to make are greater than having the BB post the ante.

In short, antes add a layer of complexity to the game.

It changes the math and widens starting hand ranges. I would not really call that complex.

Consolidated antes really change nothing vs. individual antes when it comes to strategy until you get short-stacked. Then there are some strategy differences to add to complexity.

I just don't see a need for antes in tournaments. Not a big deal, but unnecessary.
