Then I would argue that you really didn’t bid your max. When I put in a bid late like that, I think, “What is the max number that I wouldn’t mind if I lost to someone bidding $1 more than me.”
THAT is a max bid.

It’s my max bid at the time I make it. People can change their minds (well, some people at least) based upon new data received…
I think the goal is to win the auction at the lowest possible price regardless of what I'm open to paying. Basically bid the minimum because it won't auto bid up to your "max". In this sense, it's not exactly an auction since the price doesn't go up in set increments, more like a name your price where you fight to the death (because it can essentially go on forever - but I get the software challenges with snipers).

After talking it over with my friend and developer, we’ll be adding a bid sniping protection feature in the next update, which should be ready in about 2-3 weeks. This will keep extending the listing end time by a x minutes if a bid comes in during the last x minutes.
This feature has now been implemented.

Some updates were installed today for the Auction system.

Along with some feedback system and dashboard improvements, auctions will now display a notice showing when bidding will open for scheduled listings. The auction end date and time are now visible across all tabs of the listing, and this information updates automatically if the auction is extended under the bid-sniping protection feature. The actual countdown showing seconds is still shown on the listing's overview page tile and also on the Auction category list overview page.

These changes should take the guesswork out of knowing exactly when an auction starts and ends.

Having just done an auction, I’d say it’s really nice! The only thing I would suggest is letting the auction go live immediately with an end date and time. Having a hard 24 hour/72 hour/etc timeframe leaves hours where people can’t bid.

No matter what your time zone is, everyone has the same number of hours to bid. Works like eBay.

Schedule your listing
Your listing goes live immediately, unless you select a time and date you want it to start.

They can bid if they are night owls. ;) Say you want members in Australia and the US to have reasonable times to bid, then 1 day auctions are probably not the way to go. I would do a least a 3 day listing.

I just installed an update that takes care of a few issues. Big thanks to @Gear, @CraigT78, @dizzyChipper, @TheChipVault (and anyone I may have missed!) for pointing things out and sharing valuable feedback, it’s greatly appreciated.

We’re still working on a few smaller fixes and planning to add some new features in the next update.

Thanks for the new format/implementation @Tommy!

I must be in the minority or perhaps the only person who doesn't like the new listing format?

Now I click on a title, it shows one photo, then I have to click on "Overview" to see the description put in, and then click on "Gallery" to see all the photos.

Can it be simplified to include description as posted by the seller with all the photos on the same page?

Once I’ve finished migrating the remaining ad formats, the marketplace navigation will be better. The the MP home page will be located here:

Can it be simplified to include description as posted by the seller with all the photos on the same page?

The marketplace requires its own framework that integrates with the forum, with each ad linked to a discussion thread. This is the same approach used by the core Media Gallery and Resources sections.

Members can include multiple images in the ad description if they wish, but it’s recommended to feature just one and place the rest in the ad’s gallery section. This creates a consistent format, keeps the ad details easier to read, and reduces the risk of images and text running together when spacing or line breaks aren’t used properly.

Is there a threshold where the buy it now option goes away once the auction price reaches a certain price or percentage of the buy it now option?
I imagine folks will simply set their buy it now price to a godfather offer while their starting auction prices will set their reserve.

Any interest in making this not private? Socially engineer the solutions and updates the greatest number of members want to see?

Could even limit it to paying members.

Or, have a running thread with Admin only write ability and member read/react only ability. Admin can post worthy ideas submitted and members could upvote/downvote by reaction to keep thread clean.

Is it possible for an auction to have a buy it now function such that instead of bidding onr can just close bidding by buying it at the buy it now price?

If it happens to sell below the buy it now price all good but ir would be cool to have a buy it now price.

BIN option goes away after 1st bid. BIN price is currently set to be at least 30% higher than the 1st bid.

No, that section works as a support ticket system, and some threads contain non-public information needed for troubleshooting member issues.

That is definitely something to consider.

But... if it goes away after the 1st bid, then how can it be set to 30% higher after that?
And if you meant that it's at least 30% higher than the starting auction price... happy to buy a set of 800x ESPTs for $1.30!

The Buy It Now (BIN) price is chosen by the seller when creating the auction. Setting a BIN price is optional.

Example:
A seller lists an item with a $1,000 starting bid and $25 minimum bid increments, or you can Buy It Now for $1,300.

In this scenario, $1,300 is the lowest possible BIN price, The seller is free to set the BIN price higher than $1,300, but not lower. After the 1st bid, the BIN option is no longer available.

BIN should go away as soon as bids are made, works same as eBay, the way it should.

Once bidding starts it shouldn't be possible for seller to reset a BIN amount (total greed factor).

Now if you could just get auto-bid to be a function, really gets annoying and drawn out having to extend past auction end times sometime by 30+minutes for people to raise $1 at a time over & over. Auto-bid would let the bidder put in their highest amount and then auctions could end ON TIME (for those that have other life responsibilities).

I think it should lock once bidding begins. Theoretically, auction shouldn’t reach BIN price but in the off chances that it does, I agree, seller shouldn’t be able to adjust. I don’t see an issue with a buyer being in the middle of an auction and deciding I’ll just buy it.

Leaving BIN active during active bidding is unfair because bidders have already entered the auction under the assumption that the item will sell to the highest bidder. The BIN should be removed as soon as the first bid is placed, similar to eBay.

All this is totally incompehensible to me, thankfully, given that I would never seriously take part in any auction, either as a buyer, or, let alone, as a seller.
Out of moral principle.

Some members have contacted me about missing feedback. What you’re seeing is the new feedback system, which is currently used only for auctions. Your Classifieds feedback is still intact and has not been lost.

We are currently in a transition period as we continue improving the new Marketplace and feedback system. During this time, both feedback systems will be visible until everything is fully migrated into a single system.

Red box = original system
Green box = new system
