Love the colors.

What does blackjack index mean?

When I google the responses are all about card counting.

This refers to the size of the Numbers/Suits. There is Jumbo Index which is largest. Then Blackjack index which is slightly smaller, then Standard Index which is the smallest.

This photo shows Jumbo vs Standard. Blackjack Index would be in between

Honest question for people who are buying like 30+ setups... are you switching out your cards after just one or two sessions? Running large multi-table tournaments? something else? More power to ya, I'm just wondering if perhaps my personal card supply is seriously lacking something

Oh no, I don't host poker games often or change out regularly. I likely only "need" 1-2 setups.

I can't speak for anyone else, but there's nothing like a fresh pack of cards. Older cards even if "pristine" mark wise get sticky which slows down dealing.

Cards also get marked/damaged. Most people with 1-2 setups means that having the same card marked twice requires buying a new deck (or living with a mark). 50 sets means that the 300 marked cards I've had can get individually replaced instead of replacing a whole deck. This volume of cards also means that I can select a replacement that more closely matches the "age" of the deck. I've had a card get marked within the first hand of opening a new pack.

The original Blue/Greens also picked up dirt in the weirdest spot. I suspect it was due to shuffling "scaping" the dirt from the face so the top and bottom edge kept getting dirt marks. They scratched off fairly easily but having to do that 208 times for a setup got to be painful. It was just easier to retire them more often. This was also solved by having a deckmate but they still gathered dirt on the backs of the cards. Those I just scratched off on demand but usually at that point they became sticky so I just switched them.

The cost being so cheap means that I didn't "feel bad" switching a deck for mundane purposes. Having to write off a $50 set of "premium" cards would be much more difficult. They're not any harder to mark and they don't wear 5x slower so I didn't see the point. I'd rather have a bunch of cheaper decks that I can abuse over a couple of "fancy" decks that I have to baby or live with marks/dirt/etc.

I just finished the last of my 50 sets of fresh Green/Blues. Moved onto the Black/Red and the stock feels much nicer. But they seem to be discontinued which is one other reason I buy a large number at a time. They may not be available for purchase in the future which means that all my replacements are useless.

I host a monthly 2 table tournament followed by a cash game. I use a fresh setup on each table for each game. I use shuffle tech shufflers and fresh cards always work best. Also, you don’t have to worry about checking the cards for marks or damage from previously played decks. I feel $20 in setups per game is acceptable.

@junkandjunk and @Timmah -- makes sense. Thanks for explaining.
Copaq on Amazon is $21 / setup and it makes it that I don’t want to throw them away.

But if something is $8 I’d swap it out twice and be ok with it.

That math doesn’t math but it’s the way it is.

Minimum new setup every session, sometimes/lot of times multiple setups per session. Card marking/damage (mostly unintentional, sometimes purposeful) happens constantly during play. $9/setup is a tiny investment to insure that the chance of marked/damaged cards issues becomes a problem.
