I'm relatively new to PCF and I'm very seriously considering purchasing a set of Roadhouse NCV Hotstamp chips from Apache (https://www.apachepokerchips.com/product/500-roadhouse-casino-tournament-paulson-set/).

I got a sample set and noticed that the chips are very very slightly warped. I've been lead to understand that this is a characteristic of Paulson Hotstamped Chips but I really love the look of solid colour hotstamps. I'm wondering what I should do to take care of a set of chips like this. Does the warp get worse over time depending on humidity etc.? Is there something specific I should do to prevent further warping? I know that baking/clamping is an option to un-warp chips but I don't think the chips are warped enough to merit this. Thanks for your help.

Most Hot stamp chips you find have some sort of warp. I've had 15k or so go thru me and it just varies. Most of the time its so minor you wouldn't see it, but you can get a wiggle.

It's just the nature of the beast. The pressure and heat needed to make the hot stamp (on both sides, mind you) can cause warping. Storing it in a non-snug manner in really hot temperatures will do it, too.
^ FYP. Heat is the primary enemy of clay chips; adding pressure when softened by heat just makes it worse.

But stored and used properly, they should not warp further.

Also I think it’s worse with Mint Unplayed chips. I think they “wear” flat in a casino setting. I’ve had tons of roulette mold hotstamps, never seen a warp in a used rack, only brand newbies.

When you say stored and used properly, does that just mean keeping them in good-fitting rack in a not too humid environment, or is there more to that?

Avoid elevated temps (like in a hot automobile) and direct sunlight (even through windows).
