So I saw this 'one time' chip on the database.

If there was a tournament in which a prize is a 'one time' that could grant a one time in a future tournament, would that ruin the future tournaments?

It would work as follows:
Players may use their one-time chip once they are all in. In theory this should let the cards that they need to win hit.
In the event that they lose the hand because the one-time chip was defective, they are reimbursed by the TO as if they won the hand.
In the event they are drawing dead, then they will not get reimbursed because it was not the one-time chip's fault, it was that they were drawing dead and no amount of one-times could have won them the hand.

Worst case scenario you double up when you are heads up in the final.

I've read this a few times over the past few days and I still don't know if I like it or hate it...

I'm guessing that doesn't help... but it did make me think about it even after I left this thread, so that must count for something... :p

(ugh, still thinking about it... :wtf:)

However, I am thinking this would go great with the @Schmendr1ck Crazy Christmas game...
https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/giveaway-crazy-christmas-tourney-ceramics.55995/

Every player gets one OneTime chip and it goes something like this:
  • OneTime chip may only be played once and is then removed from the game
  • OneTime chip is played at the time of their All-In/Call prior to seeing (all) opponent’s cards
  • If the OneTime player is drawing dead, they will not be reimbursed (not the OneTime chip's fault!)
  • Should the OneTime player have a chance and still lose the hand (as their OneTime chip was defective), they are reimbursed by the TD as if they won the hand (or only reimbursed the amount they put into the pot???).
  • If the OneTime player is winning the hand at the time of the All-in/Call (oops!), they must surrender their All-In/Call bet to the next best hand as a penalty for misusing their OneTime chip (OneTime player can still win the Pot prior to the All-In/Call)
:unsure::unsure::unsure:
Sorry if I kind of derailed the original intent of this thread...

It's a creative idea, but I think as defined, in practice, you would introduce way too many chips into the tournament.

Secondary complication, but one I grant could be resolved, how do you define "drawing dead?" Is it only among the hole cards of the players calling the all-in?

Guy uses "one-time" with 7-7 against say J-J and they are all in on the turn, with no straight possible, if two players say they folded a 7, does that invoke the drawing dead clause? Do you start searching the muck?

I sometimes use my "1 time" more than once so do I get more? 3-5 times is my sweet spot...

I've yet to use mine, in fact I actively say "I'm saving my one time I won't use it this time" so the poker gods are keeping track.

Cool ideas! I'll give it some thought. I would only give this out as a prize and never to everyone; that's just too much to manage.

Only 1 person a year would have it at this league. They will likely lose it trying to win a 2nd one time chip at the annual event where you can earn one.

I haven't thought about the drawing dead part. I think we would look thru the stub to see if the live cards (or a combination of live cards) are in there. As a rule I wouldn't go digging around in the muck or touch the burn cards.

I like the chip, but I would use it as a less-certain chip.

Turn in the One-Time chip and a second board would be dealt (like a cash game running it twice). The user of the chip selects which board is "live" and the remaining board(s) are discarded. A player may use multiple chips to get multiple boards, but extra boards are only available from the point that the action is declared (you only get one flop if you "One-Time" between the flop and turn.

If two or more players use One-Time chips they may each select a board, and gain a portion of the pot - but only if that board would earn them chips. You cannot use your one-time to make a chip leader lose to another player or to "chip-dump".

Chips could be earned by being eliminated X number of times in a previous tournament without cashing. Unused chips can carry over from game to game, so a fish may collect a number of them for a more effective "One-Time".

The Crazy Christmas game is probably the only time I would allow use of this type of chip - but for that it's perfect.

I would add that like the other special chips, the One Time chip would convert to some amount of regular tourney chips at the end of the rebuy period.

The fair value of the chip is essentially a free double-up as if u go all in and arn't drawing dead (very hard to draw dead preflop) you get a double-up.
