One time I was given the advice that you should never look back at your cards once you peek the first time because if it was a really good hand (think pocket aces or a suited king/ace), you would not forget! In your experience, how true is this? Any tips for memorizing cards if they are off-suit?

Just do the same pattern every time. If you look every street, look every street. If you look once at start and once per bet, do that. Don't change your process if it's a good, or a bad hand.

I do the opposite I think. I look like three times every street. Or if someone talks to me before the next card. Sometimes I never look. Sometimes I look five times and am still surprised at what I turn over.

People are consciously or subconsciously looking for something that’s sharply different.
Casual differences aren’t going to register much.

If I’m playing with people that look for this kinda stuff I start throwing false tells all over. Hands shaking, cards posed to fold, grabbing chips out of turn, “I don’t know why I’m in this hand” talk, all of it. Even when I don’t have shit.

I was told the same thing, so now I’m aware of how often I check my cards. I watch other players for it too. The length of the look can be a tell as well. AA? You know exactly what you’re doing. A9o? You might take an extra second to process it. Someone can pick up on that. Consistency or complete randomness is the key.

Just force yourself to look sometimes when you have the "no look hands" that you talk about (like AA, KK, AKs).

Be aware, that when certain board conditions hit, looking may create an automatic assumption about your hand. For example, a third space hits on the turn and you look. The other player(s) may assume you are checking to see if you have a spade. If you happen to have two, that's a great time to check.
