Official Horse Race Game Thread (7 Viewers)

I think I figured it out, I’m working with a designer and the plan is to order a small table topper.

I can’t wait to get it done, I’ll post photos once it’s complete. I’m using table top markers and a consolidated board. So the scratch lanes won’t be on the board at all.

I’ve also changed gears on the theme.
Please post some pics and info when it's done. A topper would be even better!

Got this from Michaud toys in Canada. Highly recommend their games for Canadians. So well made for the price.

What's the square game?
Dice poker. Highly recommend. It’s so good I bought a couple of extras this time around so I can give them as gifts.

$69 Canadian. Shipping is expensive so I bought a couple other games.

From them I have:
Dice poker
Football
Baseball
Chess/checkers
Risk/conquer
Super marbles and dice
Jumbo Cribbage
Frustration rummy.

Their chest boards seem like a good value given that they include pieces that fit into the board. I'll have to have a close look thanks
The pieces are rubbery but nice and heavy, but I'd probably upgrade mine in the future. Very high quality board.

One thing I have to ask. For you odds guys, how is my board going to work? It’s 4 rolls to win for 2 + 12, 5 for 11 and 3, 6 for 10 and 4, 7 for 9 and 5, 8 for 10 and 6, 9 for 7.

Many of your boards have three rolls to win for two and 12 and 18 rolls or so for 7. Seems like my board would favour the 7 horse.

not getting into any math, i backed my 2 and 12 horses off one roll because they were winning most times. but your board sounds off - 9 rolls for 7 is really, really low - it's going to win most times it isn't scratched.

do you have a picture of this board?

I'm assuming you have a 4 horse scratch phase. If so, the approx. likelihoods of winning are:

2 & 12 = 3% each
3 & 11 = 7 % each
4 & 10 = 10% each
5 through 9 are right around 12% each

Average of 39 rolls per game.

So your board has the highest likelihood of winning for the middle horses - relatively flat probabilities for horse 5-9. 2 & 12 are dogs.

i guess in the end it doesn't matter. the cards are randomly dealt anyways, just that if you know you've got 7's you're in good shape.

Firstly, I think you're worrying too much about the game going on too long. Remember that many rolls take a few seconds - roll dice then pay scratch penalty/ move a horse and then on to the next player. You're adding ~25% more time to each round with your extra horses.

Remember that changing by one hole makes a huge impact. And dividing the number of holes by 2 is not a simple answer - rolling snake eyes 4 times is much less likely than rolling it twice.

Is this your D6 & D8 combo?
Yes. I played prototype board with numbers on that averaged 37 rolls on your chart a bunch of times but game actually seemed kinda short. I'm afraid the ideal one with 71 average rolls may be a bit long, or make the board too big so I'm trying to figure out if something in between is possible yet not wack % wise.

Approx results - ignore the small varitions.

4-5-6-8-10-12 = average 55 rolls

3-5-7-9-11-12 = average 56 rolls

I’m late to the party on this game. I’m sure it’s been asked elsewhere but where’s the best place to get a good bang for your buck setup for this?

I have looked in this entire thread and did not find the answer to this question: What do you do with extra chips from an uneven pot? Maybe I missed it.
