I know the stereotype of the OMC. But I play in some games with and have played against several elderly players, male and female, home games and casinos...

... and they're anything but OMCs. They're mostly loose passive calling stations with MSF disease (must see flop). They'll play almost any two cards preflop if they're remotely connected. They're almost un-bluffable. And they'll chase at almost any price. Only one lady falls into the OMC bucket. The rest are NoMCs.

It's to the point that I wonder... is the OMC stereotype outmoded? Perhaps from a previous generation of player? Or do I play with a special group (def not complaining about it, trust me!)?

What have others experienced in recent years?

They sound unbeatable as well from the tone of this post. Pretty sure developing unbeatable strategy is part of poker, but I may be wrong. Maybe you should adjust?

Also I think OMC is used as a derogatory term to identify anyone over 35 that isn’t wearing a hoodie, sunglasses, scarf, and earphones. Basically a term to describe someone who isn’t playing poker just for social media posting.

OMC as in Old Man Coffee ? for online players, OMC means a guy in his 40s. Since 200x, they had time to play good poker and understrand the importance of being less predictable. Also, in their time there were reasons for bluffing, like missing a draw while representing a strong pair, and they were not allowed to go all in pre-flop, which helped develop their game. Random internet quote:
However, it is important to note that you should not classify a player as OMC only based on his physical appearance. You need to consider his playing style if you want to use this information to gain an advantage.

No. Old Man Coffee is a stereotype of a specific kind of player, not a general stereotype for old players.

In my experience, more older players are loose passive unbluffable calling stations, than legit OMCs. You can give them their own nickname.

That's helpful to hear. The term is used essentially interchangeably with "older player" online/in poker vlogs. The vloggers act as though old folks are by default OMCs unless proven otherwise. Thanks for the clarity.

I'll brainstorm a nickname for the larger group of older players, who play as you've described.

I try not to do anything to dissuade them except take their monies because they expect me to play a certain way. Stereotyping can get you in trouble when people are aware of what you are doing, but you aren’t aware they know.

Make assumptions at your peril. Just because someone looks old. Or is a minority. Or is dressed in an odd way. Or whatever - you can't safely put them in a category.

Poker is a game of observation. Watch, evaluate, adjust your play accordingly. Meta game skills matter. The better players know tricks to take advantage of preconceived notions.

For what it is worth - one game I play in has no one under 55 and several over 75. The play styles at the table run the full gamut. wild lags betting 3rd pair/runner runner draws. Rocky rocks peddling nuts. Unbluffable passives. And yes, an OMC. You can't tell one from the other without playing the game and observing.

it's what makes the game fun -=- DrStrange

I have a bunch of unbluffable players because they have no clue what they are doing. I just stick to my range. If I land nuts, drag them for everything possible. Once they start backing off because you "never bluff" you can sneak a few in. That's been my winning strategy with headless chickens. Never bluff until you've convinced them that you never bluff.

Also, many arent analyzing what other players might have. They often just look at what they have and go off feels. With a good range you can start abusing their wide open ranges.

Also, my group overwhelmingly likes to see the flop. With this dynamic I tend to tighten up pre-flop betting since there are so many more ways shit can go wrong. Typically I wont do much more than triple the blind. Then burn them hard if the flop turns your way. After they notice the pattern, they become bluffable.
