Hello.
As the title says, I've recently become interested in hosting events.
In the past, the group of friends and I have planned an annual tournament and unfortunately I've been stricken by the bug after this last event.
I've been watching A LOT of the Hobbyphilic videos (great, entertaining source) on YouTube and I've ordered about 12 samples (with 3 more on the way).
Right now my thoughts are to get two sets of chips. One for tournaments and one for a casual cash game.
For the Tournament:
Typically 8-10 players. If I'm using the terminology correct (again, new) it will be a T10,000 event. Starting with 25/50 blinds.
It seems like the 12/12/7/5 breakdown (25/100/500/1000 chips) would be use.
I'm leaning towards getting a 500 chip set of the NexGens with the following breakdown (quantity x denomination):
150 x 25
150 x 100
100 x 500
50 x 1000
25 x 5000
25 x 25000 (just because)
I thought about
125 x 25
125 x 100
125 x 500
100 x 1000
25 x 5000
I believe we typically double the blinds every 20-30 minutes and I guess could color up after round 3??
For the Cash Games:
I believe these will be 6-8 players.
Thought about getting a set of Pharaohs for this. So the first question is should the better chips be used for tourneys? My thought is since this should hopefully be casual....
20$ breakdown, starting with .05/.10
20/16/10/1 (.05/.25/1.00/5.00)
Second question would be should blinds increase in this low end of a casual cash game. Maybe set a timer for 30-45 minutes for this (.10/.20, then .25/.50?)?
Idea is maybe to allow one rebuy in the first hour?
(quantity x denomination):
200 x .05
175 x .25 (maybe reduce to 150?)
100 x 1.00
25 x 5.00
If I reduce the .25 to 150, that will give 25 chips elsewhere, recommendations? $25?
With the Pharaoh's (Apache Poker), it doesn't look like I'm locked in to buying by 25 chips at a time. So the above is completely flexible. The only reason to order a set of 300 or 500 is just because of the cases being sold.
I appreciate the time/feedback.
