Hi all,

I’m looking to start a small cash game with friends and family, with around 6-8 mainstays players and possibly up to 10. I’ve been lurking and reading for a little bit now, and am trying to figure out a good start place for a chip set for a $20-$25 buy in with up to a maximum of 4 re-buys each.

We typically play NLHE tournaments but I’d like to try and get the group into mixed cash games. Here is what I’m thinking any suggestions would be appreciated. Everything is my understanding of everything I’ve read so far here.

Small blind/ante/bring-in - .25
Big blind/Small bet - .50
Big bet - $1

.25 x 125
$1 x 200
$5 x 150
$20/$25 x 25
Bank $1480($20)/$1600($25) and 500 chip count

Would this breakdown make sense to get going with the group with a mixed game night of NLHE, Stud, Omaha and bring in other games as we progress? Or would adding in some more fracs make everything run a little smoother?

It’s recommended to have a ton of one denomination with one “value” denomination, rather than a bunch for limit. In your case, this would be $.25 and $5, respectively. A rack a player of the lower value is recommended, but even 600 should get you by, even 10-handed, if on a budget. A rack of $5s brings your bank to $650. From there, you could allow players to buy chips off of each other, which is fine since it’s limit anyway.

It sounds like you're suggesting a rack of quarters for every player, which is really unusual here on PCF - that would make sense if someone were trying to put together a 50c/$1 limit set, but not NL or Pot limit.

1 Rack of fracs is plenty for either of those.

I also overlooked that OP is offering an evening with No Limit and Pot-Limit/Fixed Limit games. In this case, you really only need a normal breakdown, just like for a NL set.

I would recommand 100/200/200.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Any thoughts on the blinds and bets structure posted above?

The ante seems high compared to the SB and BB.

For $1/$2 fixed limit stud I use a .25 ante and .50 bring in.

Also lots of people here recommend the fixed limit big bet to be 8x the no/pot limit big blind. My group plays .25/.25 pot limit and $1/$2 fixed limit.
