I've been recently thinking about updating my stash of 800 dice chips. I host a somewhat regular micro-stakes game, and started thinking about custom chips after stumbling on this forum. I'm not a graphic designer, but I made the following mock-ups in LaTeX. (If there's any interest, I can try to post the file. It's just under 100 lines.)

Looking around at other designs, this does not have classical spot patterns at all. Since we live in New Mexico, my wife got excited about the idea of having a Zia motif though. Do you think that might be a problem when they're stacked? Also, do you think these might come out better as ceramic chips? As an aside, I have the center circle at a 24 mm diameter to match the Tina chips' label restrictions, but I would probably open it up a bit on a ceramic chip.

The colors are mostly placeholders for now. If I like this idea, I'll really start tinkering with those. Being a nerd, I'll probably try to keep the copper, silver, gold, platinum accents though ;). I'm also wondering if this would look better with fewer lines on the lower-denom chips or alternating colors.

I'm new to custom chips, and I've been staring at these a lot the last few days. I could use some outside opinions, so any other comments expressing the tastes of this board are welcome.

I think they look cool, I like the design so far. I think most people would recommend making the $5 the red chip and the $1 the blue chip, then the ¢ in whatever colours look best to you to make it a “standard” colour scheme, but I don’t hate it as it is!

I like the base colors, well I like all the chips but the 1 lol. I would make it something lighter because of the red and black.

I like the consistent edge spots for this design and think it would look best on No Mold Tinas. I also think it would make a great Cali set i.e. Purple 5¢; Red 25¢; Blue $1; Yellow $5; Black $20

As long as the purple isnt too dark and stands out from the blue I cant forsee any stacking issues. As is the set looks great to me.

Make the dollars whatever you like:-)

Great designs! The color order is rough but the set is overall great. In my personal opinion, colors should alternate between "hot" and "cool" colors. I think the biggest mistake in Vegas colors is the purple 500. This is because it is next to the black 100. I honestly think they should not be close together, but here we are.

In my humble opinion, I would, when designing a custom color palate, make purple and black separate.

That said, the only 2 things that matter are dirty stacks and if you are happy. If you like it, go for it!

Thanks everyone! I do like the idea of having a more standard set of colors, so I went for the switches to make this more of a Cali set. I also made the blue a bit darker, the purple lighter, the copper darker to stand out against the now purple base, and made the yellow/red (NM flag) chip less unique.

I'll probably play with the shades of red and blue a bit more. The copper might be too dark now, but that's less important to me. I'm mostly liking how this looks though!

I would change the red spot on the yellow of you're going for a red quarter.

I would make 5¢ white base with purple stripes, the original purple, make 25¢ red and black, and for $1 use the original blue and bronze

Charcoal base with orange would be cool for $20 as well but I think I’d prefer the starkness of black and white

I really dig where you're headed. I'm kinda stuck on a NM kinda Zia motif (but not correct) set that I've been working on here and there. I'll need to revisit that on mine now  :ROFLMAO: You can always move the colors a little more to south west color palette and still keep the colors "traditional" The blue could be turquoise and the yellow could be deeper. The yellow chip is striking.
I love also matching edge spots. Tina does a great job when printing those. I love alternative edge spots. (credit to Jabinator - he did the renderings of my current design that I'm working on.

It’s a “custom” set so you can do anything you imagine….that said I personally do have a thing with using traditional casino colors for the denominations that would find in a casino. There are 2 and a half standards IMO - Atlantic City and Vegas…then the wacky CA colors we will count as half a standard ;)

AC - $1 - White $5 - Red $25 - Green $100 Black $500 Purple
Vegas $1 - Blue and the rest the same. They and AC have other denominations that are only uses for certain games like 3, 10, 20’s
CA uses different colors and often $20 chips vs $25

Being that some casinos still use pink $2.50 chip to pay black jack I’ve incorporated pink into my .50 designs. Anything lower doesn’t exist in casinos so it’s whatever.

AC does have $20 yellow chips and $10 Blue chips.

Again you can obviously do what ever and many do…but personally when i play at a game where the denominations and colors are non traditional it messes with me …especially if the values aren’t on the chip. Just food for thought
