New Models of China Clays (13 Viewers)

Been away for a while. I was bored one night and suddenly I have a new batch of samples. How'd that happen?

Apache and Poker Store both put out some new models since the last time I looked. They are all pretty decent, on par with the Apache Pharoahs I decided on. If you are in the market for china clays grab a sample of:

Phoenix
Mirage
Olympus
Nexgen Remix
Apache non-denoms.
Monaco (43mm)

There's a little something there for everyone. Sharp, round, and chamfered edges. Different molds. Lots of extra denoms.

The Mirage's are very nice in their simplicity. I really like the labels. The color pallete is great. The spots are varied which I like. The linen style texture is much finer (than say... CPC) which I really like. They've got sharp edges for those who like that. I've got a serious fetish for the bubble gum.

But seriously, they're ceramics, not china clay. But dont get too excited, they're not REAL ceramic.

Hybrid ceramics chips are dye-sub printed, but have a recess and a high-resolution printed label is placed in there. It's the best of both worlds for a chip in the 50-cent range.

I was working up a naval motif chip design. I have a mold that looks like a rope. It's on a different computer. I'll post again soon.

What file format would you need? This came out of CAD. I think its DWG format, IIRC. It might be on PCF somewhere. There it is.

Someone else on a thread called it "roman" and is apparently on Teddy KGBs chips. This is my original work in any case and I call it rope.

I got a sample set of the Olympus too. Do the Olympus china clays from TPS feel noticeably different from their other china clay/"pure clay" offerings? I don't have Milanos to compare with. They're listed for significantly cheaper than both the Milanos and the Phoenix which is why I was curious.

Akshully, now that I've learned about the hybrid ceramics, I'm not sure what the construction of the Olympus is. I am pretty sure they are ceramics too. One chip I have appears to have the faded underprint or bad transfer on the sharp edges. They are nice enough for entry level. As far as feel goes, can't really make a distinction.

In other news, The pokerstore Phoenix chips smell like china clays just like my Pharaohs.

Hmm yeah not sure, I haven't had a chance to handle any of the hybrid tinas yet. The Olympuses do have that faint plastic odor. I'm just not sure why they'd be so much cheaper than the Phoenixes and the Milanos if its the same material. They're all listed underneath the same "Pure Clay" section. I like the design and its a great price!

I have a sample set of Olympus and of the Phoenix, and I like the Olympus better, especially for the price, the only complaint is the coloring of the 5000 chip, I wish it was the Orange instead of the boring brown

I did end up getting a set of these and we like them. We call the 5ks "Turkeys" haha, definitely a Thanksgiving feeling chip. Agreed, definitely wish they used the base color from the 25c or 50c chip.

You have been gone a long time if the Roman mold is yours. According to the guide below it has been in ASM possession since 1900 so I’m assuming you had it made before then.
I am familiar with parts of the country not having electricity, I read by gas light some until 3d grade. But you blow that away, being around in the 1900’s.

TPS Olympus Hotel & Casino China Clays Review

I just received a 500 ct tourney set of these chips and I’m really impressed. They feel really good and the quality control seems great. I’m gotta say, for the price, this set feels more expensive. I was pleasantly surprised to find that TPS through in a deck of their Classic brand plastic playing cards, a nice TPS dealer button, and a deck of seating cards, they didn’t have to do that, thanks so much guys. The chips shuffle very smoothly and stack high and flat. I didn’t find any spinners and they are very grippy, not slick or slippery at all. The only thing I wish is that the 5000 chip was the Orange color rather than the drab brown, but other than this, I’d say this set is a home run, I’d recommend it for sure if u r into China clays. This set will be replacing my Apache purchased Desert Palm set I’ve had for years. The Olympus set is far more refined and seems far closer to real casino chips, looks and feel wise I mean compared to the Desert Palms. I took some pics that I will include here for everyone to take a look at, hope this helps someone.
